I don't know about it, can't confirm or deny if this is possible, or if he's right, don't have a scientific background, and what exactly does constitute "death" there's clinical death where your heart stops and not your brain, what about if you brain did stop, but you could be resusitated(sp?) your brain could be jump started like a dead car battery?

Suspended animation is probably the most feasible way to make interstellar trips. Since it's theoretically impossible to beat the speed of light, we'd need over a lifespan to reach the nearest star. Freezing someone, or even having a Nth generation reach the destination is less far-fetched than hyperdrive or warp speed.
And even between those two, the freezing part is easier because they wouldn't have to eat, and would be the same people who started the journey with all the training and stuff. What if all the children wanted to be rock stars or whatever?

you train them for what they need to survive, same way you do earthbound.

Yes but if you had a generation ship, you would have to have a dedicated training center for all the generations that follow, instead of simply having a trained person go into cryofreeze and then defrost and have all his knowledge intact. Plus the feeding and breathing capacity for centuries of travel would be prohibitive.
