If so, I recommend Newcastle, it has a city like atmosphere and is a nice place to live.
I live on 210 a fortnight (rent bills and food) - not out of choice however, once I brow beat centrelink into fixing my payments up it will be back to 300. Some of my friends on the mainland are paying 200 a fortnight just for rent...
I'm in the thick of bad rent here in Sydney, I know theres many places in Newy that come to 150 a fortnight rent. Or there's Gosford in the middle, I think they pay you to live there now.

Maybe you should have gone, I mean, it may be religious, and it may seem dumb to us, but to your mother it obviously meant a lot. Sometimes we have to make sacrafises for our family, because lets face it, most of our parents have made many sacrafises for us.

I hear you.

I got that every sunday. Eventually I just went along with whatever my mom said, reasoning that it was better to give up an hour and make her happy (of course, I went to a quite regular Catholic church--in and out in one hour, every time). The only time we argued was if I had been out Saturday night and didn't feel up to getting out of bed. I actually said this to her once, which gave me no end of grief.

Me: Okay, Ma, I've got a proposition for God. If He can cure this headache and make me refreshed, then I'll got to His service.
Mom: It doesn't work that way!
Me: Then what the hell kind of religion is it, anyway?

The good thing about my Greek GF's family is that it's all oversea's, so there is no huge gatherings like in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

What's really bad is when your girl-friend's family doesn't think it's an ethnic group--and you are not only an ethnic group, but all stereotypes apply. I've had that problem a couple of times.

*nods*

I've already had a run-in with her grandfather, and her mother seems to not trust me for a number of reasons. *sigh*

The situation probably isn't helped by the fact that her immediate family is trashed. Her mother went through two divorces, and as a result is highly suspicious of any and all guys now.

At any rate, I was just about rolling on the floor in the theatre when I saw that movie, because I knew perfectly well where it was coming from.

Look at the sizes, Britain has about a zillion people. Australia has 19 mil and vast amounts of land, granted most of it is useless, but we killed a lot of people to get it.

My g/f is paying 260 a fortnight for a nice one bedroom flat.

I'm paying 133.50 a fortnight for a room as part of a big house. My room however I've turned into almost a bedsit...

Is there anything actually wrong with humoring your parents on something that clearly means a great deal to them, even though it may mean nothing to you? What does it cost you, other than an ultimately inconsequential interval of time?

Reminds me of a Greek chick I knew in highschool. Her rich parents bought her a VW new beatle for her graduation and formal, and this was at a time when there was a 3 month waiting list and the damn things were selling for well over list price. But she was nice enough to host a BBQ where we got stuffed on great food and got piss drunk so it's all good.

Ah yes, Voula, haven't talked to her in a while so we should probably go bug her soon, and maybe I can get her to do my hair while we're at it.
