Well of course Christianity is a symbolic blood cult! "Eat, this is my body", and "Drink, this is my blood" is pretty obvious, isn't it????

In practical terms, however, most agnostics are actually atheists who are afraid to admit it because the word "atheist" causes problems for people in the company of the sort-of-intolerant Christians that are all-too-common (somewhere between Christian liberals and hatemongers)
Hate to say it, but if I were confronted by people of that ilk I would say I'm "Agnostic," though it's true I'm not a skeptical Atheist.

Hey, when confronted by fundies I call myself an agnostic too. I know I'm totally selling out, but it's just not worth listening to their bullshit. So the hell with it.

Am I the only one who proudly says "yes, I'm an atheist", and then immediately goes on the offensive when they start attacking my values?

Nope.
Though I must thank america for the exported fundies....we really really wanted them here....honest.....

The worst of it is I know what a bunch of hypocritical fucks they are running around praying on people in the street (no its not a typo) and generally being a pain in the ass. I am more than happy to destroy thier pitiful insecure little beliefs when they see fit to screw with my day.

As for Ultra's question...I suppose that'd make you a deist.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i was under the impression that it was only the Roman Catholic Church who did the whole wine and bread thing. I was a rabid protestant for many years and in all the churches i visited with the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland i never say this ceromony once.

Baptists also take communion. I grew up raised a baptist, Though i never took communion. I am not a baptist anymore. I have read the bible and can say i do belive in God. But i cannot say that i am a christian because i do not follow an established religion. My old church treats me like the equivalent of an atheist in their eyes. But i really dont care :) Btw imo everyone has their own beliefes and should be respected for that. The fundamentalists really piss me off with their intolerance of other people.

I do that too, but in Italy it's not as big an issue as in America. And also I am not that good at debates, but that's all righ 'cause the street preaching fundies are far worse anyway.

There are many different non-Catholic denominations in Christianity, such as the Unitarians, Calvinists, Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Mennonites, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Pentecostalists, Donatists, Monophysiticists and.... did I miss anyone??

--The U.S. is becoming a dangerous place for nonbelievers. There are black lists, secret police, and secret detainment of people without charges in military brigs. I would guess this is currently restricted mostly to those people associated with arabic nations, but due to the secrecy who knows? One now has to determine how best to fight this fight. I'm not sure being openly atheist is such a good idea realistically speaking. IMHO, there is only one battle that absolutely needs to be fought and won. That is the fight for a strong education system where logic, reason, and the scientific method are taught and it is demonstrated they can be used to solve both social and tech. problems. Everything depends on this since we simply don't have the power to win a direct fight with religious conservatives in the U.S. politically or otherwise.

I used to tell people I was an atheist, but I've now just settled on the more direct, "I think the whole magic show is bullshit."

My grandparents took my younger brother and I to a Methodist communion service where we got tiny cubes of white bread and a tiny sip of grape juice. Our parents kinda freaked because we were never baptised. And yes, I'm still an unwashed heathen. And proud of it. :D

No you arent, I happen to be on your side in this issue.

About christianity, of course it is a religion of sacrafice. the largest christian group by a very large margin, the Roman Catholic Church, and the second largest christian group, the different orthodox churches, all believe in transubstantiation, that upon taking holy ucharist the person actually embibes the blood and body of christ. Doesnt that make them cannibals? The protestants, do the same thing symbolically, ritually consuming products that "represent" teh body and blood.

I would too. But the fact of possibly getting murdered, beaten up, and harrassed is something I want to avoid. Yet, debating daily as a liberal Christian and defeating them is enough to stir up enough reaction.

My family's catholic, and I got my first communion but never got confirmed, and I don't think I want to either, I take a commitment seriously, and it would be hypocritical of me to become a "soldier of Christ" if I don't even agree with him.
