That's It I quit!

Post by Faram »

I am leaving the State religion here in Sweden (protestantism) and saving myself the cash that the church is getting through tax from me.

No more fence sitting I'm out and I am not going back in.

State religion? Why do you need a stinking state religion?

That's new for me. You swedes are weird.

Half the country would set loose the dogs of war if a measure like that was to be instituted here. At least, I hope so.The center-left parties would be deeply displeased.

They do the same thing in Germany...Though the tax is ot mandatory. It is basically your religious tithe...but instead of putting it in the collection plate, as a member of a protestant or catholic church, it comes out of your paycheck and goes to your church.

If a state relgion were to be p roposted in the United States then the rabid religious groups of this country would rear themselves apart in an orgy of violence and destruction in an attempt to insure that their religion was selected.

Now that I think of i t lets propost a state religion....
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Instead of making you pay a tax, churches in America beg for your money in the sermons, or at least that's what the church I go to does.

In otherwords they guilt trip you. There in front of the rest of the congregation they pass the plate in such a way that at least some people see whether you put something in or not. In some churches they give you envelopes to put the cash/cheque in but you still have people noticing (in theory) if you do or don't put something in.

The last I heard, in Christian churches you are supposed to pay 10% of your yearly income to the church. Kind of steep wouldn't you say?

Now the little I know about the synagogues around here they tell the members how much they should be donating after looking at how much each person/family makes. The whole payment thing is private though.

You could always put an empty envelope in.

My church passes around a collection plate and you can deposit whatever you want. The minister has never preached about giving money during his sermons.

Of course, my church actually does need the money to just stay operational, so it's not like the minister or the Session is glutting the congregation for their own benefit.

I haven't been to Church in 6 months. I relly just prefer to stick to my own personal beliefs and not argue with others. I am not refering to the preacher.

I may find another church soon, but I find this confortable.

Or if you're a real bastard, and good at sleight-of-hand, have an extra envelope and play a little "shell game" with them... nah, that's just assholery. Forget I said that.

Sweden was christianized before there was a united Sweden. Back then there were no parties at all, so the populace couldn't very well complain. They'd have been hung, drawn and skullfucked if they did. :)

Blah same thing happen when I where in elemntary(sp?) shool.

Go to church sing som palms and thank the lord that I am getting a summer break.

Back then I where to insecure and stuff so I just bowed my head and did the same as all the other children.

I do think my general dislake for religion came when I where in 7th or 8ht grade.

Fuddie priest came and said that everyone should get a confirmation(sp?) and stuff.

My parent's did't care one way or an other but my grandparents made a big deal out of it so I whent ahead and did the confirmation thingy.

Those weeks of late shool and the weekend where a big guilt trip, I did start the followers of Job just for kicks.

The priest got somwhat upset when I got 4 or 5 other kids to join.

Best thing about the weekend trip was the girls. 20 boys and girls minimal supervision and loads of spare time :D

Well I'm bothered by the fact that this is allowed even if you are not. I may be small-minded, but I hate being forced to do something. And seeing as how I was already pretty low on the school's totem pole, I was definitely being forced.
