Read my fucking mind! Plus, it perpetuated the ridiculous "R2 hacks anything myth" where a single outdated Astromech took over the World Devastators and the Imperial Flagship. tghe plethora of previously undiscoered Jedi cheapened the journey of Luke Skywalker as well, supposedly last of the Jedi, phhhbbbttt...

I have to agree with the Hugo Weaving idea, at times he has a steely presence, you know not to fuck with him.

IMO, the best course of action would be to combine the strongest elements of both Dark Empire (not DE2 or Empire's End) and the Thrawn novels into a single cohesive storyline. That would be worthy of a sequel trilogy.Illuminatus Primus wrote:If any post-ROTJ EU should've been the Sequel Trilogy, it is Dark Empire.
As for who'd make the best Thrawn: Daniel Day-Lewis

The only reason I will see that movie.Sokar wrote:I like the idea of Jason Issac's as Thrawn, though hes going to be busy playing Lucius Malfoy for a bit, though he dosent re-appear in the books until "The Goblet of Fire", but seeing as GoF is probaly going to be a two parter...
Rufus Sewell might work too. Or Sean Bean.

From that picture Lewis looks perfect for Thrawn. I'd like to say Weaving, but i got really put off when he heard his natural voice in th Matrix Reloaded DVD. He sounds like fecking crocodile Dundee. After weighing up all the candidates i'd day Irons ot Tommy Lee Jones. Thave have the kind of face and attitude i imagine Thrawn to have. But to be honest i don't think any more Star Wars movies should be made after Ep III. You can have too much of a good thing as the new trilogy is proving so far.

Actually Jason Issac would be another good choice, he is slick, cruel and evil looking as Thrawn should be.Sokar wrote:I like the idea of Jason Issac's as Thrawn, though hes going to be busy playing Lucius Malfoy for a bit, though he dosent re-appear in the books until "The Goblet of Fire", but seeing as GoF is probaly going to be a two parter...

I think Denzel Washington could do it. Combine his suave, debonair character from Much Ado About Nothing, his confident, condescending, and experienced character from Training Day, and his, well, naval officer character from Crimson Tide, add a dash of the spark and anger of his character from Glory, and you'd have one kickass Thrawn.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Dark Empire is epic, well written, well concieved, and wraps up Palpatine and the Empire.
1. Palpatine exploded in ROTJ. He was wrapped up. DE just brought him back.
2. The Empire was never wrapped up.

SW establishes the Empire builds weapons of mass destruction designed to succeed technologically.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:And planet eating warships and long range missles with the strength of the DS isn't uber?Illuminatus Primus wrote:

GAT is simply a supposed clarvoyant who built a battle plan so fragile and dependent on his interpretation and "reading" of the enemy that a pair of Assault Frigates and a squadron of X-Wings were able to turn the tide very quickly because some smugglers arrived.
In SW, according to movies, super uber techological monstrosities are the order of the day.
I don't recall blue Stalinists who could read minds and interpret everything from a piece of art.
Furthermore, I was talking about DE, not DE2 which should never have been made.
And in DE, the principle of Palpatine that it is his aim to eventually rule all without any need for weapons, just the Dark Side--harkens back to the infamous ANH line "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force." The repeatative failure of Palpatine's uberweapons, esp. at the hands of his Force-endowed Supreme Commander reinforces this motif. The Force will always be over to overwhelm his "technological terror". This is wrapped up as it is Palpatine's own Dark Side fury that destroys him and his flagship utterly.
