Any treasure hunters in here?

Post by Superman »

Does anyone use a metal detector to ever go treasure hunting? I really enjoy doing it.

Has anyone found anything interesting?

I once went panning for gold, and found a bit of gold. That's really it.

I do not metal detect. But my dad does. He started about 5 years ago or so as a way to get outside and a little excercise.

First day out he went to check out what used to be a neighborhood from the old days. Its now and empty lot at one end of the San Jose International Airport. The houses are gone, but the streets can still be picked out.

Anyway, he found a silver half dollar from the late 1800's. Its worth about the same as the metal detecter he bought, so he got lucky and broke even the first day.

He has not found anything as neat since then, lots of little rings and coins, but no jackpots. Sometimes he finds interesting items that tell a little about the history of the area, which is cool even if it has no monetary value.

I do not go metal detecting, but in some ways you could say I am a type of treasure hunter, I am a scavenger, I make my money that way. People throw out the damndest things, most of which are either in perfect shape, or can be easially restored to operation btw.
