A comic: Superman the commie!

Superman: Red Son

This might just be the coolest comic book I have ever seen. Concept: an infant from Krypton crash lands on a 1950's Soviet farm in the Ukraine and is raised to believe, with all his heart, in the goodness of Communism.

The writer, Mark Millar (The Ultimates), sees this book as an Orwellian allegory for today's current situation in the U.S., where the balance of power has shifted dramatically in favor of a single superpower, and one man tries to use force to bring his ideology to the world and police it at the same time.

I'm hoping they release a hammer-and-sickle-Supes shirt. I'm not a fan of communism, but how can I turn down that image?

That's a pretty fucking cool idea. My avatar approves. Now off to play HoI as the USSR. I just conquered Germany in the space of four months.

I'm not a big fan of Superman, but I'll probably purchase that. I can just imagine him repulsing an attack by the Legion of Doom (naturally led by evil capitalist Lex Luthor!) at the gates of Moscow.

Or better yet, cruising over West Germany in support of a tank offensive :D

Bah, the real Superman aided American forces in World War Two, and he's more then ready to kick arch rival red ass.

Actually, this has been done before. He was called "Bolshoiman," and it was a short stury by... um, I don't remember. But it was cool!

I suspect Batman and Green Lantern will somehow be involved with stopping him. 8)

Billy Bateson, being the neurotic wussy that he is, will be defeated ("Golly! He fights dirty!")

However Genis-vell, being the Neurotic Pyscho killer that he is, would fight dirtier than Supes. Alas, Genis-vell is in the Marvel Universe...

Believe it or not, I actually posted this topic a month ago in the "Sci Fi" forum. :? Hehehe

Anyway, yes, this is very cool. This is definately on the level of "Kingdom Come" and "Dark Night Returns."

Any of you guys ever see that really old episode of Saturday Night Live where they had Superman: The Nazi?

Superman was born in Nazi Germany and used his Super Power to fight for the Nazi cause. Funny as hell. They asked him if his X-Ray vision was always in effect, he looked at Lois, and said yes, then he looked at Jimmy Olson and whispered to Hitler "He's a jew!"

Hopefully execution will be better then what I've seen

Superman stories...regardless of angle have failed in this honest repect is this...

THEY ALWAYS REVERT HIM BACK TO OUR SUPES(sorry)

But I have read elseworlds since it began...Bats and the rest of the gang always change but Superman has always gone back to Modern Age Superman because he's Superman(He was raised by Darkseid, was this supposed monster, and guess what at the end....yeah)

If this one somehow escapes it(the Civil War as well as the British Empire one reverted as well...for some reason he became a Yankee), I will be damn happy.

Come Socialist boy, these people should have obeyed the party and grown five times the food on a quarter of the land. It's there own fault now.
