the alien in alien

Post by Shrykull »

I was wondering about alien, why couldn't they have gone back into cryogenic sleep for the rest of the way home and let the alien starve to death?

Would it? I thought the only real hazard would be when it bleeds the acid goes burns through the decks, but it wouldn't bleed would it?

What would stop it from punching a hole in your cryo chamber?

You mean, like they did between Alien 2 and 3?

When exactly did they have a chance to do that, exactly?

They only sit down to eat for a minute before the chest-burster in Kane does its thing. Granted, they should have been much, much more cautious and followed quarantine rules better, but a lot of that can be blamed on Ash and his orders. So when they go chasing it to capture it some time afterwards, they're assuming it's still some tiny little bugger they can just throw a net over. That one guy engineer finds out the hard way, so they come up with the plan to just direct it to the airlocks and blow it out into space. So when that backfires, they're down to four crew members.

Ash gets in the way of their next plan of just abandoning ship, so once he's out of the picture (poor Bilbo! ), they grab their things and get the hell out of there, or at least try to (do *not* fuck with a creature like that and its abillity to catch you when you least need it to be their).

So that leaves us with just Ripley. Kinda hard to find a place in that fram of less than 24 hours to just have a change of heart and go into hypersleep with a thing like that running around, anyway.

EDIT: I should clear up that my point is their only real opportunity to 'just go back into hypersleep' was either after the first death after Kane, or more likely the second death (Captain Dallas), since they still assumed the airlock plan could be done effectively. But the bigger issue is simply that once they reach Earth, they still have to deal with the alien, and that's a possibly bigger risk.

Besides, the aliens themselves can put themselves into long-term sleep. Remember the state they found the aliens in "Aliens"? They probably exhausted their supply of hosts and were hibernating to wait for new prey to come around.

Don't we see a chestburster come out of a colonist?

Plus in the original movie, the cargo hold packed full of eggs in the derelict ship. Who knows how long they'd been there, waiting?
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

The Aliens can, in the books, survive in vaccum, hibernate for years, don't need water or light, and can rip through armoured doors like paper. One of the books, Earth Hive, goes into detail about the truly ludicrous and improbable things they can do, but it makes a cool story. The things are, as far as natural orders go, invulnerable.

The book quotes, "It takes military-grade armor-piercing weaponry to kill one and even then it isn't easy."

One of my guesses is that the lights and fog where some kind of stasis field.

And the time, is at least the time for the alien pilot to fossilize.

They also survive in space in the films (the one killed in alien was only killed by Ripley tuning the engines on in it's face.)
