This is a column from UGA's paper. Normally I don't post this kind of stuff, but this is so disgusting that it deserves a read.

Don't you just love it when a fundie takes a quote from the bible completely out of context?

It's easy to claim a Biblical verse applies to a given situation when you take it completely out of context, but it's clear that the verse in question applies to a specific group of people when you put it back into context.

What people like that don't seem to realize is that an interferist God such as the one he describes in the passage: "God loves you and wants to make your life incredible and more fulfilling than you could ever ask or imagine" is an intrinsically bad idea. If God loves people and tries to make their lives better through interference in this world, numerous problems arise:

Why do so many people suffer? God doesn't love them?
The vast majority of actions that affect peoples' lives are the direct result of other peoples' actions; how can we have free will if God is manipulating us in order to make his followers' lives better?

Deism is a much better approach to spirituality than interferist theism.
