[STGOD-ITA]Laws against "sin goods"

Post by Arthur_Tuxedo »

The UPK would like to bring the following issue before the ITA:

We live in a civilized age. An age of cooperation, friendship, and growth. In such an age, it should not be considered permissable to ban those goods for which no objective harm can be ascertained. Inside the UPK there are millions of hardworking men and women producing recreational drugs that provide great joy to people all over the galaxy. It saddens me to see that many other empires take a dim view of these harmless substances and turn away our honest merchants at the border, merchants who have invested a great deal of time and money making the trip only to be turned away by those with archaic views. The UPK proposes that freedom of trade in these victimless so-called "sin goods" be imposed as a condition of continued membership in the ITA.

Thank you.

The Free Floater Republics have long used their advanced biosciences to produce a variety of pharmaceuticals, both recreational and otherwise. These drugs are tailored to provide only the most pleasurable sensations, but have no physically addiction properties.

We stand with the UPK on this issue. Drug selling is a victimless crime, assuming those drugs are designed to be non physically addicting.

You don't need a new thread for this, keep it in the first ITA thread

Just move the discussion. Phongn wont be around very much this week. The whole damn reason for having an ITA thread is to discuses ITA matters there. You don’t make a new thread for every issue.

It's so hard to keep track of all the issues when it's all in one thread. That's why I posted it here.

If we get as many posts from these people as we did from the average STGODer back during the glory days of the first, we'll hit 500 posts in two days.

I doubt well see that, since many hear appear to have no experience at all with this sort of thing. Its unfortunate that BBS doesn't seem to have any form of tree view format.

The polls are open on the recreational pharmaceuticals act in the other thread.

I've also summarized which ITA Acts have been passed and which are still under consideration in the first post of the other thread.

Speaking of which, people are offering to donate forces to the ITA security force but no one has yet seconded the proposal to establish the security force.

No drug lacks side effects, and mental addiction can be more powerful then physical effects. Too may times in it past has the Kokand Empire suffered as many within it turned to chemical substances to mask problems.

Should this amendment pass the Kokand Empire will view members of the ITA in a different, far dimmer light. It may also find it necessary to actively interdict this drug trade should it threaten Kokand.

Her Serene Majesty's Government also must agree that substances our scientific experts judge to be both harmful and addictive, or one or the other and presenting additional dangers to society that we judge present, might be banned, and those trading in them arrested and punished under Taloran law. Should the ITA facilitate this trade, we would consider it very regretable.

While this policy would appear to be laxer then that of the Kokand Empire, the Empire is glad to know that other star nations within civilized space does not mindlessly acceptable claims of harmless drugs and let the poisons flow into there space lanes and cities.

The Kokand Empire also restate what it had earlier declared, dual use drugs entering our space must be strictly controlled and the responsible party will be held accountable if they fall into the hands of dealers.

For those of you new to STGODing, the legalised drug trafficing will do wonders for any economy, the only problem is that some empires might not like you very much for it.

Consider the Bill carefully before voting.

********

The Minmatar are curious as to why entities outside the ITA are condeming a bill which will only effect ITA members.

Because if these substances are freely traded with even more powers then they become all the more difficult to keep out of our own systems. In any case, since we do not produce these drugs, if we where to freely trade them the effect would only be to give our star nation a unfavorable trade imbalance.

Perhaps in the future the senate will revote on this issue.

A truely valid point, but the Minmatar would like to point out that it is nieve to assume that there are no producers operating within your borders.

The ATJ views the trafficking of any non-ATJ produced or endorsed goods through its space or stations as an offense punishable by confiscation of goods and death or "press-ganging".

We know of some illicit production, however the quantities are minuscule compared to what some star nations now turn out, and what others consume.

Drug traffickers are welcome in Imperial space, so long as they carry no addicting drugs and have registered their vessels with the authorities.

There is no need to be condescending. I was meaning to HOW they would interdict. Would they use military force for instance.

No we will use polite requests, the first time. When that invariably fails the offending ship will be engaged. Militia patrol craft backed by the Imperial Starfleet will be responsible for this and all policing of Kokand space lanes.
