Anyone here have an overactive mind?

Post by Superman »

I am one of those people whose minds never seem to shut off. When I do routine things like go to the store, go to school, etc, I always hear music or cannot help but think about other things. Not that I think I actually HEAR music, it's just that my brain never seems to shut up. I never enjoy silence.

Falling to sleep at night is a nightmare. I usually have to be exhausted and even then, I see images in my mind until I can finally get to sleep. Does anyone else here have these problems?

Yes, I know this would be considered ADHD.

Constant hassel to my life. I've actually gone and started calculating my normal caloric/energy input in a day(The results always scare me, really..).

I'm always thinking, unless I'm extremely tired... Even then, I often just lie on the bed thinking "This is so comfortable."

I have long periods in which I'm constantly thinking of things totally devoiced from what I'm currently doing. In one school day I think I refought seven or eight battles in my head complete with sound effects, 3-D map effects and some other stuff.

It's what prevents me from falling asleep a lot, and also what prevents me from ever being able to develop story ideas well. I think of a ton of cool shit, but never have the time to be able to figure out how to put it all together.

Yes. Keeps me up at night, even if I didn't toss and turn so much.

On the other hand, I can slap together some ideas fast. They might not be too coherant, but still. I used to make up one story-universe per day.

Happens to me a lot, and just like Sea Skimmer, I often fight giant space battles in my head, complete with disco-rific weapons effects and thundering explosions. Just like Babylon 5 Meets Star Wars! 8)

I've also woken up more than once dreaming I capped the flag in Quake, as well as dreaming about sex with gay vampires and Goths in a black City...

Having an overactive mind is better than the other end of the spectrum... And I do sometimes. I don't know what exactly the criteria are for this, but I've had nights (few and far between) where I'm unable to fall asleep for hours for all the thinking I do. It's exciting when it happens during the day though. Inducing that state is one of the best things that marijuana can do for me, though when I get it artificially I'm a bit dumber that the naturally occuring sort... usually when I've read something really exciting and have a "cosmic buzz."

Insomniac for three years now. My brain will not shut up, unless I go to sleep right after sex.

Right now I have Monkey D. Luffy shouting "GOMU GOMU NO - BAZOOKA!!" in my head over and over and over again

It's mildly funny right now but i'll be driven insane in a few hours

You mean that isn't normal? My mind's always been a clutter. I've never really thought about how it could be different. Like you, I also have difficulty sleeping. Left to my own devices I will revert to constant, rapid forwards phase shifting.

Nope. In fact, I think I'll go to bed now, almost immediately drifting off into dream land and enjoying the wonderful relaxation of a good night's sleep. :)

And of course, because of MEAP tests, I get a late start day for school tommarow through Thursday. I'm gonna be getting alot of good sleep in this week.

Its a constant stream of noise and/or chatter about almost anything and everything, movies, music, game I've played........its slowly driving me mad I think. Easy sleep comes only with exhaustion, or after sex, otherwise I lay there for an hour+ trying to sleep, and then the dreams come, vivid, wildly realistic dreams that leave me feeling drained in the morning as if I hadn't bothered to sleep at all.

I'm seriously thinking of seeing a psychologist, its really beginning to bother me....

My mind functions at astonishingly high clock rates as well. I'm always theorizing on something, computing something, dreaming up soundtracks for my own sci-fi universe, to completely working out entire scenes from the back history. And I can talk to all the varied voices/aspects of my mind. It's quite a zoo in there, I kid you not. And yes, it can be rather annoying at times. Quiet down-time listening to music tends to help sometimes though.

The music never stops. Twenty four hours a day, every day, some tune is going through my head. Even my dreams have soundtracks.

Perhaps there's a link between sci-fi and ADD?
