Music itself has been going downhill ever since those dickheads I shall not name became accepted as music, our great companion rock has been taken down too, by a horde of 12 year olds working out of their parents wallets.
My friends, these are dark days.

Re: What the hell has happened to rock music?
Given the alternative is "Bring Me to Life" will be so overplayed you'll will despise the song and the band becomes another one hit wonder. In other words, a total lose-lose situation for them.anarchistbunny wrote:2. "Bring Me to Life" Evanescence I don't know about where you live, but my rock station aparently refuses to play anything from this band.
Re: What the hell has happened to rock music?
Linkin Park rocks.anarchistbunny wrote:Reading throught the paper while I was on the can, I come across the top 10 rock singles.
1. "Somewhere I belong.' Linkin Park When will people label this correctly, Linkin Park is POP not ROCK! They are the "Making the Band" you didn't see on TV, they have no talent, you NEVER hear them live, because they can't SING. They are ENTIRELY a product of marketing.
2. "Bring Me to Life" Evanescence I don't know about where you live, but my rock station aparently refuses to play anything from this band.
3. "Like a Stone" Audioslave" Ok, but not really great work from them.
4. "Headstrong" Trapt" I don't know, the first time I heard this song I thought it was Linkin' Park, I haven't been able to hear them live though, but in general is just ok.
5. "Can't Stop" Red Hot Chili Peppers Now I am a fan of the Chili Peppers, and I like this song, but I still think that it isn't top ten worthy.
6. "Seven Nation Army" The White Stripes Same thing with Evanance, there haven't been any word or playing of any of their material on the only rock station in my town.
7. "Times Like these." Foo Fighters I really liked "All my life" and when I heard it I thought that Foo Fighters may be taking a turn for the better, then this came out, and I was wondering what this was doing on this station.
8. "Girl's not Grey" AFI Again weak.
9. "Price to pay" Staind Another band I like, with another work I don't really care for.
10. "Send the pain below" Chevelle Also weak, and I never liked Chevelle in the first place.
So thats 60% of the music deserves to be on a pop station, 20% are not the best work from a band thats good, and 20% are apparently considered less rock than Linkin Park(dear god!) to be played on the radio.
Is it just me? Is the rock genre just moving on while I get left in the dust? Is it just a lull point in the year? What?

It's only called rap music because the C fell off the front of it.

Of course they're still kicking out the real shit but lets face it, none of it's their best work even if it's good and they're still a very distinct minority. That and all of them are seriously underplayed by most radio stations in favor of pop-rock.innerbrat wrote:You guys can sit there as whinge about how there are no good rocks bands anymore, except that the classic artists are still alive and churning them out - Aerosmith; Alice Cooper; Ozzy Osbourne; Slash - all have had good labums out in the last few years. So stop complaining that rock is dead just because Linkin Park are selling.

True. But there's no way you can tell me linkin park is ever equal to Black Sabbath, AC/DC, or Metallica. Your taste in music is subject but there's no denying they don't have any of the ability of any of the classic rock musicians.Aeolus wrote:Opinions on music are just that, opinions.Hethrir wrote:What was that? I agree that Metallica has talent. But in my opinion Black Sabath just loud noise. Way to heavy metal for me. At least you can dance (not just thrash around) to Linkin Park.Stormbringer wrote:True. There are still plenty of great bands out there...
Example:
Queens of the Stone Age - fucking brilliant, they rose from the ashes of Kyuss & established themselves as being a band who do their own thing.
Powerman 5000 - their new album Transform is fucking great, its welded to my CD player at the moment.
Jimmy Eat World - Their last album was brilliant.
Marilyn Manson - while mOBSCENE isn't his best single the rest of The Golden Age of the Grotesque is rather good. Slightly different from his older stuff with more of a KMFDM feel.
Rob Zombie - dispite what is detractors say he has progressed musically over the past couple of albums, still writes fun escapism music & has the best 'Yeah!' voice in rock today. Hope he doesn't give up rock for movies.
There are more but im too tired to think...

You would actually compare anything that manufactured poprockrapmetal band could porduce to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath? Good Gods, man!
Personally, I find it much easier to dance to somehting with a tune than to rap metal...

Aerosmith has gone soft in the last few years.
And Steven Tyler should be forbidden by penalty of law from writing any more fucking songs about his daughter. Let Liv have her own life, man! It's CREEPY!
"Pump" was Aerosmith's best album, IMO.

I think Linkin Park is Limp Bizkit without the explitives. In other words, nothing.
I'd say the overall quality of rock music nowadays has gone down, thanks to untalented artists and radio stations that play them ad nauseum, but there are a few acts out there that sound good.

"In an age where bands seem to achieve dizzying heights of success solely based on the amount of times they can moan in contrived rage about how unbearable modern society is whilst accompanying such incessant drivel with seemingly the same three riffs again and again song after song, or how many naked breasts and expletives they can plaster over their album covers or t-shirts (aided of course by the corrupt and jaded media whose pockets are lined by record companies fervently handing over greenbacks to ensure their run of the mill acts are flavour of the month and will thus infiltrate the psyche of the more impressionable and deluded sheep-like masses who swallow such pap like baby birds awaiting regurgitated worms), true art is often ignored." - Byron Roberts, vocalist of Bal-Sagoth (an obscure metal band from Britain)

Listen kiddies, go change out of that all-black ensemble you bought at the Salvation Army, wipe that white shit off your face, and realize that Marilyn Manson sucks. Unless you were in elementary school at the time, you should have realized this no later than 1998, actually.
And people who rip hard on Eminem are basically disgruntled rock dudes who wish their pet genre still had a talent/personality like that around. Rock is about as controversial and threatening these days as vanilla pudding.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! Rock has gone from people who truly have musical talent (Led Zepplin, Panthera, you know...) to people who think good music constitutes of either coming up with a cool sounding beat on a drum machine or sound board, or reverting to being angry, screaming people who do the whole Ramons 120 mph 3 powerchord music.
Even if there are bands out there who, God forbid, actually play their insturements with skill, they still don't hold a candle up to the classics.
