Am I callous?
Yeah, I cry a little when I see abused puppies on Animal Planet. I feel bad for children in miserable conditions all over the world. But one thing about myself boithers me.
If a person dies stupidly, I could care less. Take for example a picture on an infamous website of a soldier who was decapitated by a helicopter blade- TEN FEET OFF THE GROUND. Details were not given, but I don't see any way he could have gotten that high without doing something really fucktarded. So I don't give a shit about it. I guess this is the same as the DArwin Awards in a way. I actually used a close-up of a piece of brain for an avatar, and after Spanky berated me after I admitted what it was, I took a moment to reflect on myself, and has led me to writing this today.
On the other hand, I am definitely a hypoctire because I've almost gotten killed two or three times in my life do to my own fuck-ups. I could have easily been one of those pictures or articles I look at and feel nothing for.

I don't think you're a socipath or a callous bastard for not caring when people get themselves killed. I think a lot of people don't care when stupid people do themselves in. Some people just ask for a ridiculous death with their behaviour. Why cry over the people that do themselves in by being morons?

It's not callous to be apathetic to people when they kill themselves in stupid ways, imo, it's even alright to laugh at them to some degree. BUT don't laugh at the family suffering, or meanness to little fuzzy animals in any way.

If you read about the stupid death of someone you don't know, it's not really surprising that you don't have any feeling for them. It's not really callousness, it's just detachment through no fault of your own. I just suggest you keep your amusement to yourself and others who have no connection to the deceased.

That's the sort of quote that gets attributed to a lot of differnet people, I think.SeebianWurm wrote:I believe that would be Mel Brooks.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:This reminds me of a quote, but I forget who said it:

I don't care if I'm callous or not. Anyone ever watch the Faces of Death series of snuff films from the seventies? I think some of them were real...Anyway, I laughed through the whole thing. Death and violence just don't effect me.

Saw that video while working at Customs, and my reaction was much the same. I've seen snuff, mutilation videos, middle-east executions, animal abuse, child porn and none of it really affects me, and I find myself laughing more often than not. Of course all my friends think I'm psycho, so take that for what it's worth.UltraViolence83 wrote:I don't care if I'm callous or not. Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.
