What the hell kind of Latin speaking Romanophile do you call yourself? Gladiator. Trajan would have wanted it that way.
Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture. I'm terribly vexed........by this dillema. How about GLADIATOR first, then Spirited Away later? Gladiator had many a flaw. but any movie on ancient Rome where the hero ISN'T a Christian is refrehing. If you're still in the "Roman" mood, try a SPATACUS and BEN HUR combo(Although the a bit too preachy at times)

This should not even be a debate. Gladiator. Maybe if this was a choice between Spirited Away and ST:V....nope I would still get ST:V....maybe Spirited Away and Signs.....Hmmmm....I Think I would get Signs. Ok, one last try Spirited Away and Voyager Season 1.....Damnit, I would get Voyager Season 1. I guess I won;t be seeing Spirited Away anytime soon.

Hmm, haven't seen the movie recently enough to quote anything from it, so I'll just do the thumb thing:
Thumbs up = death, right? Thumbs down = life...so...thumbs to the side = buy Gladiator!!

Actually Spanky I liked Princess Monikee, but I am just not a fan of anime. I saw Akira (my first experience with modern anime) and my sole reaction was "WTF was that and can I get the two hours of my life back?" So it takes ALOT to get me to watch anime. I am VERY skeptical that I will like or "get" the anime. Not that I am one of these anime bashers, just for me personally it doesn't do it for me.
ALTHOUGH your fanaticism about Evangelion got me to "experiment" and rent the first two DVDs. I like it, very cool.

How about Spirited Away or Fraudzilla? Or maybe Spirited Away or Battlefield Earth? And I haven't even started with the Poke'mon movies...........Stravo wrote:This should not even be a debate. That's understandable, but you I think that you at least give Spirited Away a chance (if you haven't seen it, that is). I thought it was better than Princess Mononoke, personally.Stravo wrote:Actually Spanky I liked Princess Monikee, but I am just not a fan of anime. And good to know that my "fanaticism" (heh ) for Evangelion perked your interest enough to see some of it. Keep it up and remember: Subtitled only, because the dub is pretty lame (and they cut out the vocal sounds of the EVAs ).
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Well I'm a die-hard anime fan and that was my reactionStravo wrote: I saw Akira (my first experience with modern anime) and my sole reaction was "WTF was that and can I get the two hours of my life back?"
Akira isn't a good choice for a first anime because of how it tries to compress a long manga into a single movie.
Actually Strombringer has had me watch a few episodes and I was VERY impressed. Particualrly liked the Ballad of the Fallen Angel.Durran Korr wrote:Give Bebop a shot too, it's an anime for everyone, even hardcore anime-haters.

The English EVA noises are funny, especially for the production ones. They had to cut them because they were on the same audio track as the Japanese VAs and not the SFX part as normal.XaLEv wrote:Spanky The Dolphin wrote:... (and they cut out the vocal sounds of the EVAs )...
Oooh, how deliciously evil. Now people who hadn't noticed before are going to go check, and they'll have to listen to the dub to do it! Yes, soo evil....
the pain....

Neither One.
Do not get Gladiator. Please don't get Gladiator. Don't get Spirited Away, either, however.
Get The Fall of the Roman Empire, directed by Anthony Mann and starring Sophia Loren, Stephen Boyd, Alec Guinness, James Mason, and Christopher Plummer, with a soundtrack by Dmitri Tiomkin. It's been released on DVD, for that matter. It's one of the great and most lavish of the old Roman epics of the 50s and 60s, and is based on the same historical events as Gladiator. It's cumbersome in some parts, but the soundtrack is immensely impressive and the scale of the production is awesome. Well-worth watching and a far better handling of the times than Gladiator IMO.

I've actually been searching for FotRE, but I can't find it anywhere.
So my current list of purchases I must make is:
1) B5 2nd Season
2) Gladiator
3) Back to the Future, full set
4) FotRE
5) Spirited Away
6) Alien
7) Amadeus
...anyone got any cash?
