How to catch Mew in Pokémon RBY

Post by McNum »

I am so gonna get flamed for this... :?

To all of you who still play Pokémon:

Believe it or not. Mew has been found in the Red, Blue, and Yellow versions of Pokémon. And before this gets all messy with pokéhaters and Pokémon playes BOTH flaming me over this I'll provide my source:
It's from a user called TheScythe on the www.gamefaqs.com message boards.
I have tested it, and it works!

Anyway, the trick:

You will need Fly (HM02)

You need to be able to fight these two trainers:
The Gambler directly south of the Unerground Passage door at Route 8
The Youngster at Route 25 who has a level 17 Slowpoke.

The evil trick of Mew!
Stand right in front of the door of Underground Passage at route 8.
Save your game here.
Walk 1 step south and press Start before the Gambler sees you.
Fly to Viridian City.
Go north and fight the Youngster at route 25. Beat his Slowpoke.
Fly to Lavender Town.
Go West towards Route 8.
The menu will spontaneously pop up. Exit it immediately.
"A wild MEW appeared!"
It is level 7 and can do Pound.
Catch it!

Ta-Dah! The trick Nintendo probably did NOT want you to know about.

Before you flame it, try it out!

Y'know, I bought Red and Blue before the damn pokemania crap got underway, but I lost them under odd circumstances around summer '01. I've always thought of buying a pair of used copies just because I liked it's old, simple gameplay. I haven't found both at the same time, though. and I might want to replace Deja Vu and Link's Awakening DX first.

Hmf, I remember when I was really into Pokemon, and there were a bunch of ways to catch Mew for Red and Blue... None of them worked.

Of course, this is Ruby :P

McNum *was* talking about Red and Blue (as well as yellow), just to point out.

And despite what Shep claimed over AIM, no, I did not watch the cartoon, no did I think it was anything but contrived, half-assed, dull advertising. Just thought I'd point it out to clear-up any leaps in logic. :P

I've given the games a bit of a whirl despite hating pokemon and they arent bad, the gameplay is good old fashioned solid stuff.

That's pretty much my take on Pokémon, too.

Games = Good
Merchandise = Bad (It started good, but it became too much.)

I just wanted to share the more or less "ultimate" secret/glitch/cheat for these three games.

I once pitted a Mew I got from a trade with a guy with a gameshark against my friends's Mewtwo. Mew was defeated after a long battle.
