Breast feeding in public

My girlfriend wanted Togo's today, so we went there to eat. I look over, and there is this huband and wife, along with their three kids, and a baby. The couple was quite young too; they were probably Mormons or something. Anyway, the woman starts to breast feed the baby. She used a blanket, but she would frequently open the blanket to look at her child. Ok, so being the testosterone filled weight lifter that I am, I shook my head at her when she glanced at me. She then said, "what, this is very natural." Of course I replied, "so is taking a shit." My girlfriend glared at me so I shut up.

In retrospect, I guess there is really nothing wrong with breast feeding in public. Once again, my mouth ran before my brain, but what do you people think about breast feeding in public? Is it ok? Gross? Something that should not be done in public?

There is nothing wrong with it. It is more healthy to breast feed than give the baby formula, and if the baby's hungry you feed it - preferably sooner than later. If you happen to be in a public area at the time, so be it.

I suppose you would rather force nursing women to be segregated in special rooms, away from the public so they won't offend your sensibilities? Perhaps we could make them wear full head-to-toe body coverings. We could call them ... hmmm, I think there's a name for those things already ... oh yeah, they're called burquas.
