Gungans replace ewoks on endor
What if the ewoks from ROTJ were replaced by TPM gungans. I know many star wars fans hate gungans but let us for once consider logicaly how would gungan weopenry and tactics fare against imperial stormtroopers.
I belive gungans would fare worse than the ewoks on endor. To understand why let us analyze why the ewoks won on endor. Ewoks were not classified as sentinent by the empire and as such not considered a threat. Gungans on the other hand won against a mechanised droid army in a battle that would be well remebered in the history of the galaxy. The empire would not make the mistake of underestimating them like the trade federation.
Theater shields would not be viable on endor's forest thereby denying the gungans their only protection from imperial weopen fire. Individual shields carried by some gungans may be effective agains blasters but would fail before E-Web heavy repeating blasters and AT-ST guns. Gungans lack projectile weopenry and their EMP balls would not effect armoured stormtroopers. This would force gungans to rely on their spears which would have little use against stormtrooper armour unless they manage to hit a joint.
Gungans may still win if they can capture a AT-ST and put the other ones out of commision. However given their stupidity such a thing is unlikely.
Even if gungans try to fight like the ewoks they still lose. They are much bigger than ewoks and they make easy targets. Lacking the fanatical devotation of ewoks in battle they would not take the thousands of losses the ewoks took and still keep fighting. They would retreat once they realize they are being used as cannon fodder by luke.

The main reason the Ewoks where so effective was because the Imperials where ambushed by large numbers of the wee bastards. Gungans are on the other hand human sized and armed with more than a sling shot and a bow and arrow.
As such Imperial forces would stay in group formation and gradually kill the shield generators then they procced to have the AT-ST's step on the gungans. The one real danger from the Gungans is the "big boomers" artillery.

I doubt the Gungans know a thing about guerrila warfare, which is the only reason the Ewoks survived as long as they did. The Gungans - IF (I stress the word) they could POSSIBLY sneak up the Imperials - would most likely line in up in nice rows and throw their plasma orbs at the Imperial troops, perhaps to some effect. But they would quickly be surrounded and destroyed by STs and AT-STs.
It was by the theatre shield alone the Gungans survived at all on Naboo. Without it they are a pitiful military force.

Did we watch the same movie? The Gungans won the battle because the battle droids were effectively 'turned off'. Tis a hollow victory indeed.evilcat4000 wrote:Gungans on the other hand won against a mechanised droid army in a battle that would be well remebered in the history of the galaxy. Even that is over-generous. They lost the battle, and the battledroids were rounding up the prisoners, and THEN they were turned off.Next of Kin wrote:Did we watch the same movie? The Gungans won the battle because the battle droids were effectively 'turned off'. Tis a hollow victory indeed.

Good luck moving that through the forest. The Ewoks catapults could be taken apart and carried piece-by-piece, or just be built on the spot.

The Gungans would never even get close to the base in the first place. They're hardly as stealthy as the Ewoks, particularly given the size of their mounts. While an Imperial scout on a speeder bike might never see an Ewok on his patrols and would not recognize him as a threat even if he did, he would certainly see Gungans, and identify them as a potential threat. They would be set upon and destroyed long before they came anywhere near the facility.

The Imp scout could be as likely to conclude that anything as stupid as a Gungan crashing around in the woods can't possibly be taken seriously as a threat, and not bother to report it. We are talking about a garrison that wasn't exactly vigilant with it's security procedures, so it's possible that Gungans moving about could go unreported. Granted, if the scout ran an ID check on the species and found out that they weren't from around Endor, the scout might think differently and call in for reinforcements.Darth Wong wrote:The Gungans would never even get close to the base in the first place. Re: Gungans replace ewoks on endor
Sorry I got carried away a bit. The point I was trying to make was that Gungans played a key part in the march towards the galactic civil war. Any imperial would have read about them in history books. Imperial strormtroopers probobly read about the battle of naboo while in school and would be familiar with gungan weopenry and tactics. That could prove decisive for the empire.Next of Kin wrote:Did we watch the same movie? The Gungans won the battle because the battle droids were effectively 'turned off'. What about the theory that the theater shields would have "harmful effects" on carbon based lifeforms attempting to "Pass through" it on foot?
Or would stormy armor protect them?
Frankly, I think it would be a massacre. The Ewoks and the Gungans both had a lot of factors in their favor on the battlefields, but the Ewoks fought more fanatically, had larger numbers (?), despite taking more losses.

That's specifically stated in AOTCICSKurgan wrote:What about the theory that the theater shields would have "harmful effects" on carbon based lifeforms attempting to "Pass through" it on foot?
