The Emperor would like to mention that restricting people from this alliance based on their political affliations runs counter to the very idea of free trade. The Emperor wonders if this is a trade alliance or a military junta.

It is clear that as more issues are arrising, some members are not excercising their democratic right to vote. Before the ITA can move ahead with future proposals (and future memberships) we believe that we should establish a resolution on all unfinished proposals before we move ahead.
The Minmatar propose a 24 hour timelimit from the time of this post before polls are closed and the majority votes of those that have voted decide the outcome.
Act 4: Proposed by the Asgard Empire involes trade sanctions against the NRE for slavery. (100% Tarrifs, effectively doubling export costs to ITA members)
Yea:
Asgard
Floaters
Durandal's Empire
Minmatar
Kelia Alliance
Nay:
Monacoran
Act 5: Legalized recreational pharmaceuticals a requirement amongst all ITA Members. -Measure fails
Yea:
Durandal's Empire
Floaters
UPK
Nay:
Asgard
Minmatar
PIR

The Mensia-Dorian Hegemony requests to join the Interstellar Trade Alliance. Our society is completely atheistic and we do not own any slaves and have our anti-slavery laws. Our official Ally, Mismeir Gosthia does have slave though we can easily apply diplomactic pressure and force them to slowly reform these legislations for slavery. Thank you for offering your time to hear my offer. Thank you.

Free trade runs hand in hand with free speech. The Monacorans have no right to demand that the Asgard retract their statement saying that they will support The Republic of Tho'a-hal if they support anti-slavery measures. It is the Asgard's right to express their views upon the open ITA forum.HemlockGrey wrote:The Emperor would like to mention that restricting people from this alliance based on their political affliations runs counter to the very idea of free trade. Slavery however is the ultimate insult to free trade as it inflicts involuntary servertude on potential competitors and trading partners.
So according to you I would have no right to oppose a member state saying "I will only vote for you if you remove all trade sanctions you have against me for nuking your capital" because that would only be views openly announced, and not extortion.Spyder wrote:Free trade runs hand in hand with free speech. On a second note I try to defend the NRE for two reasons, firstly they are allies and border neighbors with a decent military, and according to the alliance I have with them me interupting trade with them is grounds for war.
Secondly I honnestly think sanctions will do nothing, it won't change his people's views on slavery, and the rights of holding them. It will, however, make them belligerent and angry against this alliance as a whole.

As the Republic of Tho'a-hal is already a signatory to the Anti-Slavery Alliance, I believe this is covered.Stormbringer wrote:So long as you support the anti-slavey measures.Lord of the Farce wrote:To those concerned: The Republic of Tho'a-hal respectfully request membership into the Interstellar Trade Alliance.

First point: The Asgard's offer was "support my position and I will support yours" not "support my position or bad things will happen to you". Therefor it is not extortion.Straha wrote:So according to you I would have no right to oppose a member state saying "I will only vote for you if you remove all trade sanctions you have against me for nuking your capital" because that would only be views openly announced, and not extortion.Spyder wrote:Free trade runs hand in hand with free speech. Second point: Slavery is an abomination in the face of free trade, trade sanctions against Empires that still practise slavery is a powerful message that such practises will not be tolerated by the enlightened members of the trading community.

The Minmatar supports Tho'a-hal membership. We will open polling for new members as soon as soon as the open issues are resolved. It shouldn't be too long.Lord of the Farce wrote:As the Republic of Tho'a-hal is already a signatory to the Anti-Slavery Alliance, I believe this is covered.Stormbringer wrote:So long as you support the anti-slavey measures.Lord of the Farce wrote:To those concerned: The Republic of Tho'a-hal respectfully request membership into the Interstellar Trade Alliance.
5 out of 10 have voted nay to Act 5. It is now impossible for a majority to vote for act 5 and thus the measure fails. Nations of the ITA will not be forced into legalized recreational pharmaceuticals. This does not mean however that the said pharmaceuticals will be illegal in the ITA, it means that member nations still retain the right to decide for themselves wether or not they want to legalise their narcotics.

You file a request, someone will propose that we vote on your membership request, if someone seconds we vote on it. Get a majority vote and you're in. There are currently no formal requirements, what members of the ITA prefer is that tarrifs towards other ITA members are kept to 5% or lower, which is probably an issue that will be voted in in the future. What advantages the ITA does offer is that it acts as a guaranteed trade agreement between all member nations, bypassing the need for individual bilatteral treaties. It also ensures that your deep space trade convoys are protected by the ITASF under Act 2 of the ITA Constitution.Sea Skimmer wrote:The Kokand Empire wish to know what the current requirements/benefits of are membership.
