my mom says if we're worried about offending the atheists, we should stop abortion, cuz it offends her.
I ask where is that in the constitution, she says she doesnt know.

sure do, the right to be buried properly and not be treated like garbage. I would say that dead bodies are treated with more respect than unborn children in the laws eyes. Afterall there are laws against improperly handling dead bodies.Darth Wong wrote:By that flimsy rationale, dead people still have full rights.Death from the Sea wrote:I would say in the all men are created equal part. Are not you a cluster of cells? granted much more complex, but given time that simple cluster of cells becomes human. The heart starts beating around day 28 of the pregnancy, so explain how that is not human life.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Is the term "full rights" unreadable to you?Death from the Sea wrote:sure do, the right to be buried properly and not be treated like garbage. A man is an aglomerate of cells. So is a tree, an elephant and a rat. Being a cluster of cells is far from equating human life. Excluding the tree, all the others also have heart beat. Prove that a dividing cell is more human than them.Death from the Sea wrote: Are not you a cluster of cells? granted much more complex, but given time that simple cluster of cells becomes human. The medical definition of death is zero brain activity. It is our conscious thought that distinguish us from all the other life forms. It is therefore a good reference to define the beggining of a human life. A cluster of cells doesn't have brain activity, a fetus in the last semester has. Somewhere in the middle the line between not human and human is crossed.

Dude, where have you lived all your life? Ask any Chicago Democrat and he'll tell you that the dead DEFINITELY have the right to vote.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Is the term "full rights" unreadable to you?Death from the Sea wrote:sure do, the right to be buried properly and not be treated like garbage. Human life is human thought. A brain-dead person is legally dead, idiot. So until we get significant brain activity (which is around halfway through the pregnancy), we don't have human life. All we have is a bag of non-sentient flesh.Death from the Sea wrote:Are not you a cluster of cells? granted much more complex, but given time that simple cluster of cells becomes human. You say it's OK, therefore it's OK? What a powerful argumentNot sponsoring one particular religion, but a general religious act and that is ok.

So a dead person has the right to life? What about cadavers? As a human, I have the right to not be cut open with surgical instruments. What about autopsies? Why don't we ask the dead person before perform an autopsy?Death from the Sea wrote:sure do, the right to be buried properly and not be treated like garbage. Dead people are lumps of flesh. The fact that we treat them with respect is out of respect for who the person was when he was alive. It's not because they have fucking human rights. By your dumbshit rationale, a worm has rights, too.

Up until last year I was a staunch pro-choicer. Now I'm about halfway to complete pro-choicer if it were on a spectrum. I honestly don't care what people do most of the time; even if I were one to consider abortion murder I still wouldn't care if others did it because I don't care that people kill each other.
A rape...Of course I'd say it's OK to abort! Accident...Well, I was an accident, so I'm somewhat against the killing of a fetus (in late stages, anyway) that wasn't wanted, being that I'm not total white trash because of it. But, to each [her] own. If I got my theoretical girlfriend pregnant and she didn't want it, I'd try to convince her otherwise.
Perhaps this stems from my being a sentimental old fool...I don't even squash insects unless they're directly annoying me, like a mosquito.

OK, the pro-choice position actaully doesn't have that much to do with the morality of the act or not.UltraViolence83 wrote:Up until last year I was a staunch pro-choicer. If you think that, irrelevant of whether she should abort or not, te choice to abort should be in the hands of the mother, and not her doctors/religion/government, then you're pro-choice
I personally don't think I'll ever abort - I didn't even have the morning after pill when I was raped - but that was my choice.

Ive done the reverse. I couldnt manage to argue it for life (see old abortion topic), so Im moving away from it. I think it unethical, no matter the fetus age, but for legalities, I figure we should let it go for the first 6 months. . . and not waste them. research people, research!UltraViolence83 wrote:Up until last year I was a staunch pro-choicer.
