A quote from Jack Chick's Website...

Post by Steven Snyder »

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
Here is the link...
http://www.chick.com/information/religi ... errors.asp

He was trying to refute Islam by claiming that it wasn't scientifically accurate and so he says...
It only takes one error to disprove the Qur'an. That's right. Just one little error and the whole book goes down in defeat! You have just discovered one irrefutable error in the Qur'an. What are you going to do about it?
**Addendum, changed topic name after it was pointed out the article wasn't written by Chick himself.

It's a global flood isn't it?

Or a claim the world is flat?

Or two conflicting and contradictory creation stories?

*reads article*

Oh no, I was thinking of another false religion.

Evidently, yes.

Someone give him some lines to read about his heart stopping and we may have ourselves one less fundy.

OK then, we get to throw out the Bible also on the basis of the fact that it says that pi equals 3. Hooray!

Is that a Jack Chick pseudonym? If not, I don't see how you can attribute that quote to Chick.

That article after a few improvements:
Scientific Errors In The Bible

by Robert A. Morey [Edited by Sir Sirius]
© 1996 Research and Education Foundation

If the Bible is the infallible Word of God, then it stands to reason that it would not contain factual errors of science. By "factual errors" we mean errors that can be physically examined. We are not talking about contradictions between scientific theories and the Bible. We are talking about hard evidence that can be checked out.

But first, there is a question we must answer: "is it legitimate to judge the Bible?" Many Christians believe in the Bible as a blind leap of faith. They really do not care if it is filled with mistakes and contradictions. As far as they are concerned, they were born Christian and they will die Christian. The more closed minded they are, the more fanatical they become in their religion. When ignorance unites with arrogance, fanaticism is born.

We pity those whose religion is only the product of an accident of birth and culture. They blindly follow whatever religion they were born into. How sad it is to have an unexamined faith; a faith that cannot stand up to reason and science; a faith that merely shouts slogans, stamps its feet and beats its breast in a mindless mob. They do not believe in Christianity because it is true. To them Christianity is true because they believe it.

A poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. (Macbeth Act V, Scene 5)

Thankfully, there are millions of Christians today who have received a university education and understand that an unexamined faith is a worthless faith. They are open minded to scientific facts and evidence. They want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Geocentrism

One of the questions which puzzled the ancient Christians was, "Does the Earth move" The Bible gave them Yahweh's answer.

... the Earth abideth forever. The Sun also riseth, and the Sun goeth down and hastethto his place where he arose. The wind goeth toward the south and turneth about unto the north.
-- Ecclesiastes 1:4-6

... the world also is stablished that it cannot be moved.
-- Psalm 93:1

Who laid the foundation of the Earth, that it should not be removed forever.
-- Psalm 104:5

And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
-- 2 Kings 20:11

12. Then Joshua spoke to the Lord, in the day that he delivered the Amorrhite in the sight of the children of Israel, and he said before them: Move not O Sun toward Gabaon, nor thou, moon, toward the valley of Ajalon.
13. And the sun and moon stood still, till the people revenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of the just? So the sun stood still in the midst of the heaven, and hasted not to go down the space of one day.
14. There was not before nor after so long a day, the Lord obeying the voice of a man, and fighting for Israel.
-- Joshua 10:12-14

According to these verses, Earth stands still and the sun revolves around the Earth.

To the early Christians, these verses gave the divine answer in to the order of celestial bodies. They assumed that the Earth is the center of the Universe and that the Sun revolves around the Earth. They boldly and proudly proclaimed that these marvelous answers proved that the Bible was indeed the Word of God.

People gave ear to an upstart astrologer who strove to show that the earth revolves, not the heavens or the firmament, the sun and the moon.... This fool wishes to reverse the entire science of astronomy; but sacred scripture tells us that Joshua commanded the sun to stand still, and not the earth.
-- Martin Luther

Today, modern Christians are quite embarrassed by these passage and try to ignore them or to quickly dismiss them as poetry. But not all of these passages are part of a poem. Thus they cannot be dismissed as figurative language or poetic license.

The mistake was based on the erroneous assumption that the earth was the center of the Universe, the very pinnacle of God's creation. The authors of the Bible did not know that the earth revolved around the sun and not the other way around.

The reader must ask himself if he is prepared to believe and to defend the Bible in this passage. Either the sun revolves around Earth or it doesn't. It is either one way or the other. There can be no middle ground, no compromise, no evading the issue. If you agree with us that the Earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around, then you must also agree with us that the Bible contains scientific errors.

"So what?" you ask. "Who cares!" you cry. Only those who are brave enough to seek the truth will care. Those who are intellectually lazy or dishonest will close their eyes and pretend to see nothing.

It only takes one error to disprove the Bible. That's right. Just one little error and the whole book goes down in defeat! You have just discovered one irrefutable error in the Bible. What are you going to do about it?

There is only one place you can turn for the truth about God. Atheism is the Way, the Truth and a Fact. Accept Atheims as your world view. To find out more truth on the Bible, see

There is nothing funnier than intolerant Christian fundies who try to "prove" that other religions are goofy. They never seem to realize how easily their arguments could be turned against them.

The indoctrination starts early. I ran into an 8 year old Jehovah's Witness who was ranting about how "all those other religions are stupid". Smiling and trying to remember that I was speaking to an 8 year old boy who was a bit young to withstand a full verbal whipping, I said "You shouldn't say that. How do you know those people don't think your beliefs are stupid"?

His answer? "That's different. My belief is the truth, not a bunch of lies from Satan." I'm not making this up. 8 years old and he's already a fucking intolerant asshole.

Actually, there is a strong-running urban legend that Lovecraft's wife, Sonia Greene, had an affair with Aleister Crowley. Of course, there is no proof for this.

Crowley wasn't satanist either, despite giving himself the title "The beast 666".
