...why are all the Euro flags so much cooler than the American ones? Even the ones that are just bars seem to have nicer color schemes.

Excluding the Stars & Stripes, I think that many American state flags are too complex. The more simple a flag is, the better. No offense.

Well, we've had a thousand years to come up with them, it's normal. This tough decisions take time

I'm not neutral, but I sincerely believe the Portuguese flag beats the crap of almost all the others. The Star&Strips, the Union Jack and the E.U flag are also very cool. I don't care too much for all the variations of the three bars, horizontal or vertical. It shows lack of imagination.

i disagree. a flag is symbol which is supposed to stick in your head from the begining you see it. giving complex patterns or pictures makes people forget what the hell it was that was on the flag. the portugese flag is a good example for that. there´s too much stuff on it to be a clear, straight symbol you can remember at sight. the 3 bars are actually pretty good, as well as crosses or even the slightly more complicated stars & stripes or the union jack.
the picture stuff such as the portugese flag might look nice, which is a matter of taste ( i think 3 bars are cool even though the germans failed to chose a cool color combination, in fact i think the german flag is pretty ugly) but it´s not really adequat for a flag.

I prefer the color combination of the Imperial German flag, the schwarz-weiß-rot;

The Portuguese flag can be simply described as two stripes (red and green) connected by an yellow ball. It's very easy to remember, and at the same time gives it a distinct feeling that all the three bars color variants lack (At least, I'm always mistaking them). It also contains a fair bit of portuguese history in the details without cluttering the design (it's really all in the centre), like some US state flags we've seen. The Union Jack and the stars&strips are also unique, therefore my preference.

Santa Clara. The Santa Clara flag is that seal on top of a flag with two horizontal stripes, white over red.

I don't know what the glocksman is smoking, because Californians don't really care about Indiana. At all. There's not going to be any war, pal.
