Did you notice he had to constantly feed energy in to prevent it from melting, and that it was visibly tiring him over time? Not a real advantage.
The energy he expends may not make a great advantage but it's still an advantage in that it gives him options others don't have. Lifting heavy weights can be tiring but that doesn't make being strong enough to lift more than others a disadvantage.

Not that being strong is a be-all/end-all advantage, but it was the simplest analogy I could think of...
But lifting wieghts increases your endurance and the increase to the body gives the simplistic illusion that you are a better candidate for mating. Being able to make things cold offers no such tertiary advantages and is a net disadvantage.

Going back to the ice wall, despite him constantly refreezing it, it was meting from the instant of conception (dark corridor, middle of the night, Strykers gloved hand has enough heat to come away wet after touching it seconds after it's formed). UNless he is constantly using his power, the system wants to return to its normal energy state, so in the survival situation postulated originally, he'd starve to death keeping his food refridgerated  There is no net gain to his powers outside of Comic book situations and plots.

Okay...since I have some energy here's the new revised since the Phoenix times of Scott's history.

Blah-blah...Mr Sinister wanted uber mutant...Summers DNA was big thing(I'm not going into th rest...need sleep...if question PM me :P )

Well Shi'ar attack Summers plane.

Scott and Alex thrown from plane with one parachute...parachute fails Scott uses Eye beams to cushion fall.

Because of this his damages brain because he wasn't ready.

And that's the story of Scott's eye problems.
*sigh* fair enough, but in the original telling of the plane jump, the parachute only partially failed and it was the impact of the landing and trauma of losing his parents that was supposed to have brought on the Amnesia. The question remains as to why he doesn't vapourise his eyelids or skull when he closes his eyes if he has no control?

When the idea was first introduced, it was the same head trauma that gave Scott partial amnesia that also damaged the brain section controlling his optic blasts, though it would be years later as a teenager before the actual power emerged. I don't recall off-hand when this was introduced, but it was quite a while back.
I'm guessing that this further adding was after the whole Acolyte/Magnus's death fuck about (which is when I stopped reading). I remember the Amnesia parts but not any mention of it affecting his control. In the early comics he was there specifically to learn how to control them, because the mutation was so deadly to tohers, there was never any mention throughout those times - right upto when I stopped reading - of there being any damaged control mechanism in his brain. Mind you in Claremonts reign it could have been a line buried amongst the rest that I don't remember, but it was never a story point in itself, and considering how much Claremont repeated every little point constantly, and would make which shoes to wear a major drama for characters, I'm doubting it.

Ah, sorry, it's an injoke for the "Scott debate team" we have going on. It was established long ago that the trigger for the beams was the opening of his eye's, he doesn't need any protection when they're closed as the beams aren't always on. Sorry about catching you out there, that's why thoe bits were in the small size.

Well, after seeing the movie, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The story moved well, the action was good, the fights were good, and I think most of the characters were done well even if just cameos (Colossas was great). The one complaint I have is how Yuriko was written. They didn't do the Lady justic at all.

There's a lot of history there, and they sort of compressed 3 characters into one with Stryker - Proffessor Cornelius, Stryker from the GN, and Yuriko's Father who created Adamantium. And there's no way they could have shown enough of her backstory - cyborg, vengance, betrayal etc. At least they stayed true to having her whip Logan in a fight, the guy almost always lucked out of a confrontation with her after getting his arse handed to him.

Yuriko was Logan's wife as well wasn't she? Guess they could've given her a little more time in the film without really going down that road still.

your getting her confused with Mariko, the Yakuza Clan leader and Sister of the Silver Samurai killed by the Hand under the orders of Sabretooths son through the proxy of Matsuo Tsurayaba.

Easy mistake to make :D

Oh good grief, I haven't a clue what the cartoons continuity was, though I suppose it followed the comics.

Well she was under perpetual mind control after all. Who knows how long they had her drugged up, though that does beg the question of why her healing powers didn't kill the drugs effects faster.

Well, I was rather thrilled by Hu's performance in the death scene. It was as if just then she was free of mind control... That look in the eyes was magnificient...

Well most of that was conveyed by the eye's changing colour from the blue tinge to the striaght brown, and then her focusing on Logan. I would have prefered if she could have had a better scene of the drug wearing off earlier, as she got nothing to do other than look puzzled before Stryker dosed her again.

Just got back from seeing it and HOLY SHIT BATMAN! That was 50X better than the first! This is one movie I WILL have the second it comes out on DVD. The CGI used in the air combat scene was fantastic!

The movie was also ALOT funnier than the original. The look on Logan's face when he sticks his claws out at the cat was a riot. :D

I don't know, the quote you had in your sig when the first was out was always a good one.

2 best (and very differently delivered) quotes from this one in my mind were :

Logan : "oh shit!"

Magneto : "There's something different about you today."

The first was funny as hell, the second was just wonderfully delivered.

Yeah, I loved that scene. :D Funny thing is, Cyclops was still active on SB and he had never seen X-Men so he was like "WTF?!" when I used that. :P

I was half-expecting Kelly Hu to kick Logan in the nuts in that fight. :D

When the plane landed in front of that house, I couldn't help but say "Hey! How come they get a kickass school bus?!" :D
