SA-80 is a great training weapon. And that's it.Anget Fisher wrote:didn't the SA-80 have problems with the mag falling out other than that awesome gun
People have differing opinions on it, but the general concensus is that it's a pain of a weapon to use, I'd like it if we adopted another bullpup assault rifle design like the FN2000 or Steyr AUG or even get the M16-A2.

The H&K OICW, to me, a fugly and needlessly complicated piece of equipment.Anget Fisher wrote:i know the US is making a new rifle to replace the M-16A2/M-203 grenade launcher i think it is a bullpup rifle
The FN2000 seems a far better design, is available now and utilises a variety of grenades and can use most all STANAG magazines.

Do you mean the one with the huge muzzle break and thickened barrel?Admiral Valdemar wrote: Been meaning to ask, have you ever used the AI Super Magnum Lapua .338? I may use it in a novel I'm writing.
There was talk of it getting the nod for the LRR (Long Range Rifle), but I think they went with a L96 with modified furniture instead. And I've fired a .338 version of the L96 during a sniper Range Package for weapons evaluations so I'm guessing it's the same on. It has a noticable kick - more powerful cartridge but the weapon weighs nearly the same. Flatter trajectory out to about 900m with an good tight grouping at 1200-1300m and a good chance of a kill at that range. Still not up there with the .50's but it more than gets the job done. The Calibre is a twat though as it would be the only weapon on the field that needed it and bean counters don't like that and it means you can't cadge rounds off the Gimpy crews either if you really need some.

Oh god, not another Sa-80 debate. The things a pile of crap, it's gotten better after H&K gave it a substantial work over but it' still destined to get the heave-ho and not a moment too soon. Substandard, useless hatfucker, and it got the LSW foisted off on us too, bastard shitbag!Anget Fisher wrote:didn't the SA-80 have problems with the mag falling out other than that awesome gun

There was nothing wrong with the FNC, but I can see the British Army buying this and the MINIMI to replace the current set-up.Admiral Valdemar wrote:The H&K OICW, to me, a fugly and needlessly complicated piece of equipment.Anget Fisher wrote:i know the US is making a new rifle to replace the M-16A2/M-203 grenade launcher i think it is a bullpup rifle

That's the one. I was wondering for a merc team though, I hear the Canucks have accepted it for their long-range squads instead of the Barrett .50 series of rifles. I guess the calibre is a little dodgy, but it gives you great penetration over the .30 without the notable drawbacks of a .50 which are a bit bulky. I also just forgot what the GPMG is that we use now as well, I've been reading up on the MG-42 so much that any other gun went out of my head.Rob Wilson wrote: Do you mean the one with the huge muzzle break and thickened barrel?

Wasn't it the first semi-auto handgun to be made too? I always thought it was a poor substitute for the guns of today until I heard the SAS still using them, thought the USP Tactical would be used now. It's the sidearm of the British armed services full stop.

The FN MAG, L7A2. As to your Merc team, well why not? No reason not to, though your snipers going to have to be shit hot as the round at the end of it's journey has a high deflection to it's arc at the longer ranges.Admiral Valdemar wrote: That's the one. Of course they still use it, it works no matter what, has a 12 round mag and has a balanced round that will drop people at close range with head shots. Why change if what you have does the job and does it well?Admiral Valdemar wrote: Wasn't it [gp35] the first semi-auto handgun to be made too? Don't worry, they won't be engaging stuff more than 1 klick out.Rob Wilson wrote: The FN MAG, L7A2. As to your Merc team, well why not? No reason not to, though your snipers going to have to be shit hot as the round at the end of it's journey has a high deflection to it's arc at the longer ranges.
Yeah, it's only recently that I remembered that thought, if it works why change it? I just have a fetish for the USP I guess.Of course they still use it, it works no matter what, has a 12 round mag and has a balanced round that will drop people at close range with head shots. Incidentally, would you accept the SLR back over the SA-80? My dad keeps going on about how good the FN-FAL was compared to our current popgun.

No, that was the Browning M1900, though that was made at FN. It should be noted that there were auto pistils before then, but if I remember Correctly this was the first mass produced design. The Colt 1911, was designed off of the M1900 with some operatig improvements, and the GP35 was developed in the 1920's as the ultimate evolution of the design (it actually kept very little of the original, but it started out as a refinement that kept getting changed ).Admiral Valdemar wrote:

Then you really don't need the Super magnum version, anything inside 800m and the standard L96 in competent hands will get you a one-shot kill.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Don't worry, they won't be engaging stuff more than 1 klick out.Rob Wilson wrote: The FN MAG, L7A2. I'd take the gat in a heartbeat. When i left the regs and joined the TA, they were still using the gat, and it was a joy to use compared to the crap toy i'd jus finished being lumped with. Of course all the TA soldiers wanted to have the shiny new SA-80, but then the grass is always greener . The SLR was robust, accurate, powerful and could be fired left or right handed with no modification. Plus it was useful for clubbing the enemy to death as well.Admiral Valdemar wrote: Incidentally, would you accept the SLR back over the SA-80? The Accuracy International comes in .30 as well so I'll stick with that I guess.

We dislike Gambit do we?
Ok, just watched the thing. Wow. It did not flow as well as the first movie but the action was superb. I guess I am a Wolverive fanboy cause his action scenes were awesome. I was really glad that they did not make him the new and improved non-killing killer. It was fun to see him slice and dice the troopers in the mansion. I was also glad to see them flesh out Jean. It really set up the next one, I just hope they work the Hellfire Club into it.
Collosus was great, he is up there in my top 10 and I was saddened that Kitty didn't get more development. Gambit can just stay in obscurity, as far as I am conserned. But they do have to work in Betty (Psylock) cuz shes my favorite.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
