Worst City in the World???

Post by Frank Hipper »

I've heard unpleasant things about these, any others?

Koenigsburg-Industrial Armpit.

Mexico City-Largest slum on the planet.

Detroit-Crime ridden capitol of the rustbelt.

Manchester-Industrial Armpit.

Or is there someplace you'd rather nominate?

I'd put Mogadishu somewhat below those

Detroit-Crime ridden capitol of the rustbelt.
Michigan is actually very prosperous now and Detroit is doing quite well. The problem is we have a shit head mayor and a ghetto full of dumbass gangbangers that'd rather blast away at each than get an education. Even then crime is down to more reasonable rates.

I assume this list is being restricted to cities in first-world nations.

Either that, or ones that I remembered from the 1976 Book of Lists worst tourist destinations. :D
Having said that, you'll never find me in any city in India, or on the continent of Africa....

Assuming First World, I'd go with some of the old Russian Naval Ports. I know a Russian immigrant that used to live in couple of those. Pretty appalling from what he's told me. War in the streets, drug violence all the time, press gangs for the army. Nasty indeed.

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

The abhorent air pollution, do-it-yourself sewers for entire neighborhoods, and 26 million people don't sound too bad?

I got a nice case of traveler's diarrhea from drinking iced tea in Puerto Penasco(Rocky Point), mild fever, liqui-shits for a few days. If it's not bottled, don't drink it. Unless, of course, you want to acclimate your body to those microscopic nasties.

Well, there have to be some good parts, right? As for the pollution, it's partly because the city is built in a valley, which traps the air in. Because of that, it makes Los Angeles look like a hike in the woods by comparison.

Anyway, I'd say in the world, probably some place like Lagos, where the population is exploding and not enough intersfracture is being built, or some war-torn city, but that's a no-brainer.

I've been to Mexico City, but the part I was in was nice, and there was no smog because it had just rained.

What Koenigsburg are you talking about? The only Koenigsburg, Germany I can find is a relatively small city in Northern Bavaria.
Germany used to have a bigger city called Koenigsburg, on the Baltic Sea, but IIRC, the Russians renamed it Kaliningrad, which it's still called.

As far as German cities go, the worst I went to was Chemnitz.
And as far as US cities go, Barstow, CA and Ely, NV are fucking horrible. Avoid them at all costs.

For all major nations, India excluded, I'd hazard a guess and choose Ciudad de México.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

I've been to Mexico City on four occasions. I found it a very interesting place to visit. Actually, I was quite impressed with several portions of the city, as well as the Aztec ruins.

Here I thought I was just missing an umlaut. Oh well....
Barstow definetly is an anal fissure masquarading as a town, but world class? Maybe on the suck-o-meter, but it's just too small.

For a while lead poisoning in the cities water was directly linked to lowering student IQ about seven points. Though I'm not sure if that’s still the case.

What about Gloucester, Massachusetts?? According to folklore, it was the town which H.P. Lovecraft modelled Innsmouth upon.
