From bad sushi to gastroentiritis

Post by Vympel »

The problem was worse than I thought. After throwing up once, I thought I was fine, but once I was in bed it happened again- at 3:55am last night I woke up and didn't even make it all the way to the bathroom (a few metres away- I have an ensuite) before getting slammed by what is definitely stomach flu. Worst feeling of physical sickness ever- you can't keep anything down (including your own saliva) and because there's nothing in your stomach anyway you'll probably be just flailing on the floor in agony (as I was last night- not something to do on cold marble tiles). Right now I'm feeling incredibly cold and obviously can't eat much. I feel like shit- and it happened two times after in the early morning as well.

Something like that I guess- I read up on gastroentiritis on the net, and I have had it once before (7 years ago, when I was like 15), but the site I read said that people commonly believe that it was because of the last meal they ate, which is usually not the case- that said, on Thursday I ate some extremely unremarkable Pizza Hut. Maybe thats what did it. There's a gestation period for it.

Definitely food poisoning. Get your ass to a hospital ASAP.

That said, how fresh was the sushi? Because it's supposed to be prepared as soon as the fish is killed and gutted...

I feel a fraction of your pain. I recently ate a slice of pizza that fucked up my stomach for nearly four hours. I do NOT want to remember that.

I don't think I need to go the hospital, after all, I have had it once before, but fuck it feels bad. All I've eaten today is some dry toast with marmelade and lemon tea (blech).

I assume the Sushi was fresh- after all, I have eaten there many times- I'm starting to think about the Pizza Hut with much suspicion however.

Get to a doctor's or a hospital. Sounds like you've got some nasty bug. Given that it's raw fish it could get nasty indeed.

I had something similar not too long ago when I ate a hamburger from Harveys chain of fast food restaurants. Do yourself a favour if you still feel very ill and go to your local hospital or family doctor. Hope you feel better!

My mum just forced some old wives cure on me. Coffee with lemon. Cold. After which I had some nice warm gassy lemonade (fractional amount) and a jellybean.

I love superstition.

Ah, it can't be that bad, you haven't had a serious debate with yourself over which end you want to have over the toilet the most...

I have...oh jeebus.

Hopeful it's not bad, because the last time I had food poisoning I was laid out for three days feeling like hell slightly warmed over...and that was during the good hours. I pretty much needed sleep meds to stay asleep for more then an hour.

So hopefully tomorrow will be better for you, or honestly a doctor would be a faster cure(seriously I know what ando is talking about, and oh jeebus...I despised it)

You know, it couldn't HURT to go see the doctor. No need to be macho about it.

Probably old fish, also struck me down once 2 years ago.
I feel your pain, hope you feel better soon. If it doesn't get better after two days though, you really ought to go see a doctor.

It's probably nothing, my dad had a bad experience at a Pizza Hut a few years back and hasn't really been ever since.

But if it persists or gets worse then see your GP and have them take a look. Worst case scenario it could be E. coli or Campylobacter but I highly doubt that. It's probably Norwalk virus, the dreaded shitting bug that does its rounds every Autumn and Winter but lingers most the year.

Still, I wouldn't eat at that place again, sushi is bad enough when in a reputable place due to not being cooked.
