The stupidest thing that guy did, was to apply the tourniquet after cutting off his arm.

I'm surprised he didn't bleed to death.

I'm thinking they might have got the order wrong there, as the time taken to get the tourniquet tied, would have easily allowed him to fall unconscious and then bleed to death.
