Our latest breaking story zeroes in once more on the actions of a planetbound power- an Oceania Union warship hunted down and liberated a cargofull of slaves on a vessel owned by the New Roman Empire. This heroic act was accompanied by a dramatic statement from your favorite despots over on Octavia. Take a gander at what this blowhard has to say:

In related news, the famous military man, Freeman Alexander DeFranco, has been called up once again to serve. Remember him, brothers and sisters? The hero of the Battle of X-55? Well, the bastard, at the tender age of 64, has once again elected to forfeit his freedoms and accept responsibility. He's now Bondman Admiral Alexander DeFranco, Admiral of the Fleet and advisor to the new Free Republican Military Council! (remember this, ladies- he has a girl waiting for a lovebinding when he finishes his hitch, so keep your skinsuits on!) Admiral DeFranco arrived at our very own Mohaim system just this standardmorning, onboard the Zarathrustran Dreadnought "Nightshade Warrior." He'll be transferring to our very own Scipio Military Cluster, were he will be setting up a mobile base of operations. Keep an eye on him, enemies of freedom! The Oceania Union refuses to apologize for an act that any moral, ethical being would have done. The government and people find the practise of slavery deplorable, and will not countenance it. That said, the frigate captain has been reprimaded for going beyond his authority, and boarding a vessel in international space.

This is due to the fact that the prototype ship "ArrowsFlight" has erformed better tha expected in its shakedown cruise.

The actions of the Oceania Union may very well be piracy, and may have violated the national sovereignty of the NRE. But there comes a time, when the rights of sentient humanoids must take precedence over any international, interplanetary, or intersytem laws. There comes a time when defending the rights of all humanoids to be free, and unchained by the shackles of slavery must become the number one priority.

We must not let petty sqaubles over jurisdiction and national boundaries cloud our minds to the facts. Living beings are being held as slaves, and traded as property, as the free people are enjoying the friuts of their labor. Living beings are being held in servitude, unable to determine their own destiny, bound by the yolk of oppression. This must not be allowed to continue. I call for all free nations to stand with us and oppose this injustice. Who shall hear the call?

OU Frigate Liberates Slaves, Political Firestorm Expected
--International Space

In a daring raid on a slave-carrying freighter, a frigate from the Oceania Union has freed 30 slaves from bondage in the New Roman Empire. While many influential nations have come out in official support of this act, the NRE has condemned the action as expected. More unexpected has been the North American Union's statement against the raid.

"It is to be expected," said former ambassador to the NAU Mikhail Sosabovski. "The NAU is a democratic nation, but they prefer to stand apart. While I cannot condemn them for it, it is my opinion that inaction in the matter of slavery is ignoble."

The PSR State Department has reaffirmed its anti-slavery stance, and renewed the 100% tariff on Roman goods. The effects of the tariff are not reliably known, but University of Warsaw economists have estimated that the multi-nation embargo will send the NRE into a recession within days.

Said one professor, "In the international market, we're in an upswing right now. But this economic situation against the Romans, with so many nations cutting them off, it should not only halt their GDP growth, but will probably push them backwards as well."

Now here this. Now here this. The Convoy is not to engage in any destructive/aggressive maneuvers. The war coming requires us to do our sovereign destiny and duty, and fan out. Combat groups are to follow their pre-determined flagships and to run under normal noise levels. Shields are to be up whenever potentially hostile/hostile craft are detected. Message repeats...

Alex- I'll keep this succinct, becuase I know you are quite busy. I'm glad to hear about the success of the maneuvers so far, but I'm worried about your recent testing of mass drivers against the 2cnd moon of the local gas giant. I am not sure we as a people are ready to see our weapons used like that- against planetary populations, or hardened targets. I'm sure as hell worried about the Yankees- Shit, Alex, most of us have great-great-grandparents down there- And their recent stance on the Slavery incident. They've become more isolationist, more set in their ways, in recent years. I'd always hoped that the nation which spawned Zarathrustra could one day set themselves free, as we have, but once again I see them selling their sense of morality for political advantage, for the old ways. They aren't our enemies, Alex, and I don't want to treat them as such. They'd never really thought it could happen. But in the end the hardest of currencies offered to the informant had proved too much, and now the base location had been betrayed. The pirates now did not have much life or freedom left in there lawless lives as the armored cruiser Orion and her frigate escorts came out of hyperspace on the planets far side without warning. Armored doors retracted and combat drones poured from their hanger bays.
"Captain, a sensor buoy has been detected, no doubt our arrival has been detected."
"Destroy it, and begin an orbit at flank."

A trio of medium laser shots from a frigate blew the buoy to pieces, but not before it got off its message. On the far side of the desolate world sat a moderate size pirate base, dug deep into the rock. Some raced for defence stations, while others ran for there starships to escape.

The first of some 100 fighter drones crested the horizon. Behind them came twenty bombers and six reconnaissance craft. Data streamed back to the Orion.

"Three armed freighters, two corvettes and thirty star fighters in orbit sir, drones engaging. Telemetry for over the horizon shots locked."
"Combat System to automatic."
A single twist of a key switched over the ships combat systems to an automatic mod. The ship could now fight without additional commands until all ordinances was expended. Thirty missile hatches opened at once, and a salvo of MT-775 anti ship was soon on the way, cresting the horizon just before the Orion and her frigates did.

The pirates fighter where already being torn to shreds and the corvettes had there hands full with swarms of small missiles there weak screen couldn't prevent the bombers from launching. Four of the drone bomber meanwhile broke off and descended in to the atmosphere.

The shear volume of fire was too much for the sub rate capital units, both corvettes where hit by nine missiles and another four blew an armed freighter apart. Heavily damaged, one corvette immediately exploded while the other went dead in space. The heavy guns of the Kokand frigates decided the issue, battering both remaining freighters into submission.

The atmospheric bombers had an equally important job to do. Each carried four AGM-358 standoff missiles, armed with unitary penatraitor warheads and fitted with ATR seekers. The weapons separated cleanly in the stratosphere and allowed each drone to return to space.
Each 358 deployed its large wings for flight in the thin atmosphere and remained content to let its self-dive to a lower level, before finally leveling off at terrain following altitude. Fifteen had a successful engine ignition. But one failed to activate and left the missile to fly into the ground and self-destruct.

The rest streaked toward the pirates base, a maze of underground hangers and installations. Each climbed for its finnal terminal popup, the ladar ATR seekers locking onto precise terrain points. Each was located about a hanger launch tunnel. They plunged in, a shaped charge blasting through the rock to clear a path for the follow up unitary warhead.

A series of shockwaves shattered the rock, crushing the tunnels and several small craft attempting to escape through them. Only a few small fighters escaped in time, only to be shot down on clearing the atmosphere by a waiting swarm of Kokand fighters.

Captain Hampton of the Orion served the battlefield. It had been an easy victory, already commando teams from FS .111 and FS .191 where clearing the damaged freighters. Orion's troops where descending to the surface.
"Status on the Draconian?"
"She'll be hear in forty minutes with an empty bay and Intel chamber for this band of scum."

In fact the auxiliary prison ship Draconian arrived a half hour later, in time to take aboard the first group of pirates. More followed quickly, as did computer hard drives and other documents that could be of value. Without a flag the pirates had no rights and could expect few. They could expect a long stay aboard the prison ship, and then to spend the rest of there lives moving piles of sand and rock back and forth, assuming they escaped execution as a ring leader.

In less then two hours the job was done. Hampton smiled as string of depressions appeared on the worlds surface, the pirates base had been totally collapsed with emplaced charges.

"Helm, bring the squadron out of the gravity well."
"Navigation, calculate a jump for J 5314, we've got more work to do today."

121 minutes after it began the action was over, and the system was empty once more, save for a few empty hulks which would soon reenter the atmosphere of another nameless rock in space.

Ten Sinful class Frigates and their accompanying bombers emerged from hyperspace, gun ports open.

A pirate staging point had been picked up by DE listening posts, and the ships had been deployed immediatly.

"Captain, sensors are picking up a heavy cruiser, number of frigates, a group of armed freighters and light starfighters"
"excellent, commence the attack"

The first volley of missiles erupted from the launchers on the Frigates Flanks. Flying toward the heavy cruiser. Rather than impactig o the capital ship however, they exploded in the middle of the Battlegroups fighter screen. The flak, damaged the ships making them easy prey for the 240 Godless fighters that where now swarming over the pirate fleet. Laser fire impacted on unshielded hull, rending the weak hulls of the fighters to pieces, the pilots dying i showers of mangled hull fragments, and superheated gasses.

Fighter screen gne, and unprepared for the attack. The few gun emplacements that where manned began to return fire. Missiles easily intercepted by the point defense weapons on the frigates.

The second wave of missis was unleashed, the vast majority impacting on the hull of the heavy cruiser, it's shields ffailed allowing the heavy particle cannons o the frigates to reduce it to molten slag, and shatterd hull fragments.

The pirate frigates now manuvered to bring their weapons to bear. Opening fire with plasma weapons, bolts of energy washng over the DE frigates. However, devoid of fighter cover the pirate ships where open to the ravages of the frigates figher screen, and where quickly dispatched in a hail of torpedoes that their point defense weapons had no hope of stopping. The particle cannons and anti-ship missiles reducig them to molten hull frgments in less than a minute.

"Mission accomplished, lets go home"

The DE fleet jumped into hyperspce without a single casualty

The standard modification package most Floaters opt to receive includes extensive recontrustion of the skeletal and circulatory system, two systems which work hand in hand, and which both provide problems for unmodified humans in weight loss. The problems surrounding the skeletal system are myriad. The main ones are:

1. A loss of calcium: The Human body uses sunlight to help manufacture calcium, sealed ships with no sunlight don't allow in sunlight, so the body stops manufacturing vitamin D.

2. Lack of circulation: microgravity slows circulation, especially to the legs, without gravity to help it along. This slows the spread of neutrients to the leg bones in particular.

3. Lack of exercise: without stress, bones cease to develope osteoplasts, the cells which reinforce and repair bones.

These problems are solved through three methods.

First, the majority of space in a Floater cluster is seperated from the vacuum only by a few meters of transparent armor. This means that there is a lot of sunlight hitting a Floater cluster, though not as much as you would get on Earth. The modifications to Floater skin which make it more resistant to cosmic radiation also make it more adept at creating vitamin D, which facilitates calcium production. Additionally, most floater food includes vitamin D additives.

Second, the major veins and arteries in a Floater's legs are coated by thin sheaths of muscle, much like those in a human penis. These act as "boosters," pushing the blood more vigorously through a Floater's body, ensuring that even the extremities have high blood flow. Floaters eat more than an unmodded human their weight would, for this reason.

Thirdly, Floater osteoplasts simply reproduce much faster than regular human osteoplasts. This counteracts the effects of limited stress on a Floater's limbs, and keeps their bones healthy and strong. Note that in high-G environments, Floaters will actually overproduce osteoplasts, and sever damage can result if a Floater lives for extended periods without a powersuit or genemodification.

In response to complaints from alien merchants, particularly the Fenari, the Kaiser has ordered the construction of a new orbital trading center. To be completed within the year, the new station is planned to have warehouses, large loading and unloading areas, repair facilities, and shopping malls. The ceilings in many areas will be over ten feet high in order to accomodate even the largest of alien species. The Imperial Trade Minister announced in a press conference his every confidence that the profits made from foreign trade will more than make up for the costs of construction.

Except from Minmatar Social Psych Archives: By far the biggest issue in the Minmatar society has been to reconcile the differences in the thought patterns of the various different species. Humans for example, have often been shown to have excellent problem solving skills but sometimes have a tendancy to overlook otherwise obvious solutions. A common Ozai (Aquatic species from the Ganthris system) saying 'Always the hard way' is often heard when refferring to their human companions. Disagreements between the species often turn out to simply be difference of perspective.

The first step in the unification process was to establish a system of common values. Many of the species, including humans, submitted such values as life, liberty and justice. The native Kaz'mordens submitted the importance of a health sex life as a primary virtue (to which was instantly and unanimously agreed upon) as a result the Minmatar have a clear definition of the difference between right and wrong, over twelve different species can interact with each other without succumbing to a murderous rage, breast implants are now tax deductable and self help numbers are set up for people who aren't getting enough action to ring and receive advice. All and all, things are looking up.
