Don't get me wrong, its a horrible thing, but to call it worse than the Holocaust is a stretch IMHO.
Think you can get HIV even if you do know the one you are having sex with...

Don't know if this is true but I did read somwhere that the risk/odds of getting HIV through unprotected sex was something like 1 in 1000. And the risk in blood transusions is somehing like 80 in 100
Uh is that 8 out of 100? Because 80% is a lot. I think we would see a lot more of it happen if it was that.

it wouldn´t benefit humanity at all. the folkes who have aids would no longer admit their desease so the spread of aids would contiue. the pharma industries would stop developing aids medicine because no one would buy them anyways.

You'd also have to understand that another disease would only take HIV's place anyway.

Assuming that the executions are fiatted, and one can only weigh the advantages against the disadvantages, from the act-utilitarian viewpoint, the executions are justified.

Don't be stupid. Nothing has taken Smallpox's place, or the plage's.

Hmm...Taken to it's logical conclusion, why don't we just thermonuke the African interior? Most of the horrible diseases we have come from there, anyway.

I'm sure the AIDS victims of the world will lay down nicely for their euthanasia, too.

Hmm... Maybe we should do the same for everyone with cancer, too. And various STDs. Hell, let's get all the Down Syndrome and Autistic kids in there, too. While we're at it, why not kill off everyone with an IQ lower than, say, 100? The senile, the decrepit, the bed-ridden, the incapacitated... The handicapped, the infertile, the impotent... men born with one testicle, men born with three testicles... Amputees, people with prosthetic limbs, quadrapeligics... People with the flu, appendicitis, cavities, papercuts, bee stings, zits, plantar worts, unsightly birthmarks, freckles, male pattern baldness, and hairy backs...

What the fuck?

I'm not agreeing with him. But his argument seems to be based on how the disease is passed on through the bad behavior of those afflicted, for the most part.

The examples you give are not similar.

This is one of those cases where you REALLY need to better-define what you mean by "bad behavior." And choose your words carefully.
The examples you give are not similar.
Duh. It was hyperbole, sarcasm, and a bit of humor all rolled into one. Apparently all three escaped you.

Not telling your partner that you have AIDS is what I would consider bad behavior.

So you're trying to argue against a point and you decide to use hyperbole? You should make a valid argument before you use them.

No, I got it, it just shouldn't be the sum total of your argument.

Well, it would certainly reduce the number of new AIDS cases out there. Of course, you'd be tracking down people for a very long time. And there's that dangerous slippery slope that if it's okay to kill AIDS infected people, then it might be okay to do away with just about any other troublesome group.

You really need to try being more restrained and more specific and more tasteful in your commentary and comparisons.

Perhaps not, but that's what happens. To think that eliminating HIV will simply give us one less problem from Nature is a bit naive, SARS and West Nile show that even after eradicating diseases that were once very adept at killing us such as Measles, Polio and Bubonic Plague, others will fill in the gap. It's simply evolution in action.
Howedar wrote:Don't be stupid. Nothing has taken Smallpox's place, or the plage's.
I guess MRSA and VRSA along with numerous other emergent diseases don't count because they haven't killed as many thus far. An equivalent to Smallpox in pathogenicity is already lurking, Influenza H5N1 and Avian Flu. They were not around when Smallpox was killing off historical figures.

I never said it was right, I was just wondering if it was a possibility. I know it's moraly wrong, but I was wondering if it was efficient. Jeez, I didn't think it would blow up in my face like this. I'm not a very emotional person, and I have a tendency to view people as a collection of things. It's just how I am. I can't help it.

I'm just asking if this would be better than letting it fester.
