I'm seeing a Bishop soon
Hopefully next Thursday. My Dad said the bishop (I can't remember his name just yet) was a Green Beret in Vietnam, and went to Yale. I'll be speaking with him soon to see if I want to be confirmed as an Episcopalian. The happenings leading to this meeting started during a discussion in one of my confirmation classes. My Dad brought up how Jews, Muslims, and Christians essentially worship the same God. Another person said they were in essence all the same, and Dad agreed. Of course, this pluralistic pap contradicted Jesus: "I am the way, the truth, and the light, and no one comes to the Father except through me." But when they started saying that a moral person, even one who has sinned in the past, could get into heaven without accepting Jesus' salvation, I was dumbfounded. It was the equivalent of a college math proffessor saying "Sure you can divide by zero! Or 5, or 12, or 2. It's all the same!"
So anyway, I decided I didn't want to join a denomination that shitted all over what the Bible said, but Dad managed to talk me into speaking with a Bishop.
Does anyone have any questions they want me to ask for them?

I'd make damned sure that the Episcopalians even BELIEVE that inclusivist little tidbit before you go any further. Last time I checked, there were a lot of Protestants (and Catholics alike) that believe that Jesus really IS the way, the truth and the light, and "There is no God before me," and all that other Chickish bullshit.
Assuming Episcopalians DO believe this, then an interesting question to ask would be: Is Jesus' "way" the same as, say, the 8-fold Path?
Hell, even if they DON'T believe in the inclusivist theory you stated above, it would still be a damned good question to ask. Because the 8-fold Path, IIRC, is pretty much similar to the vows that Brothers have to make upon entering the Brotherhood. Why they would not believe rites similar to those that the Bishop himself took, I do not know. Might be interesting to ask.

I have seen many bishops. They're the chess pieces you're allowed to move diagonally across the board, IIRC.

as far as I know episcopalians in general do not believe in an inclusive religious point of view, other than stating that it is possible for any christian to go to heaven, catholic, orthodox, or protestant. now remember that episcopalians are really anglicans who are the protestant sect that is closest to catholism in dogma and belief structure, thus you should not expect them to be biblical literalists, rather expect them to have an interpretation of the basic concepts that has been refinied over time and isnt limited to what a mysogynist who wrote a bunch of letters and never even met a devine being has to say.
Question to any christians, what gives Paul any more religious weight than say Constantine, both claimed to have a miraculous transformation to christianity, why is paul considered a valid source for religious data, but anyone else who claims to have a miraculous transformation isnt?

Many Christians don't give his words that much weight, hence the "women must not speak in the church" thing is not widely obeyed.NapoleonGH wrote:Question to any christians, what gives Paul any more religious weight than say Constantine, both claimed to have a miraculous transformation to christianity, why is paul considered a valid source for religious data, but anyone else who claims to have a miraculous transformation isnt?
I posed the same question to Johnny Boyd here (he's one of only a handful of literalist idiots around here who think every single word in the Bible is literally true) and his moronic response was simply to say that "Paul's epistles are part of the Bible".

You can find 154 good questions here. I suggest that you print it out and hand it to the Bishop.

I met a bishop at Eater. Come to think of it, maybe he was a cardinal. Maybe it was just swamp gas, I don't know

By itself, nothing. Except that in the case of Christianity, there exists in the belief system itself the mandate that you must go out and force your beliefs on others.Setzer wrote:I'm in a religion which believes its way is the only right way. As a side note, I actually used to play tabletop wargames with a guy whose father was a Lutheran bishop... and it was a fantasy wargame... not only that, the son of a bishop used wizards in a fantasy wargame.... I couldn't believe myself??
(I thought most clergymen would dismiss Warhammer Fantasy Battle as "Satanist Propaganda", but one of Denmark's most influental Lutheran priests didn't have any inhibitions against his son playing WFB!!)

Nothing ... it's just religiously egotistical. Then again I suppose it's akin to cheering for your hometown sports team.Setzer wrote:I'm in a religion which believes its way is the only right way. Hey, that's a pretty good analogy! I mean, except for with sports teams you expect the losers to go home and try again later, while with religions you expect the losers to be tortured for eternity. But other than that, they're remarkably similar!
