[Octavia System]

The fighters was swooping in on the last of the batteries. AM missles streaked out and obliterated Roman batteries. Precision fighter strikes cascaded down on any battery daring to fire. The fighters darted back and forth through the skies; there cargoes of death and destruction hurtling their enemies.

Or at least they thought they had the advantage. Unfortunately, they had a hard time dealing with missiles having a closing velocity a significant fraction of the speed of light. A few more massive volleys from all the ships in the fleet of missiles quickly overloaded the shields on the stations.

"Bugger off you bloody wanker. This doesn't involve you. We will not withdraw until we have completed what we came here to do. We suggest you avoid issuing ultimatums."

(note: this fleet consists of almost 1/4 of my total ship count)

Admiral Traendly watched as the waves of missles came in, few were swatted down by the anti-missle batteries the rest made it threw. An Aide shouted that the shielding on both Stations for Rings 2 and 4 had gone down, and that control had been sent to the INdividual Ring Commanders. The News did not Suprise the Admiral, he had expected something like this, the thing most people didn't realise was that each ring shielded the two adjacent rings, as well as itself. And that there were three shielding systems on each ring. The power of the Battle-Station was something that few could even comprhend.

Pondering for a few minutes, Traendly took up the inter ring com and said "Hold Fire until they advance, or make a threatening gesture. And if they go towards MOnacoran Teritory hold no bars."

They say the World Watches. They, in this case, turned out to be right. A single SBS Orbitor, hidden in it's phase cloak, watched the battle near Ceasar Station unfold. On Earth, operatives of the Lost recorded newsfeeds. Newcomers to the region, there was no HUMINT, but they could stop up that gap for now. The Convoy was spreading now, seperating in Hyperspace. A small group seperated from the main, making for Earth. Another broken away, heading for the NRE. They waited, while others watched.

"I have been authorized to negotiate a peace on behalf of the New Roman Empire. What are your terms?"

"Admiral, we have a transmission from the Roman commander. He's proposing a cease-fire in place followed by negotiations."

The Admiral considered it quickly. Bright Star had succeeded and both sides knew it. Any more would simply waste lives on both sides.

"Agreed. Recall the fighters."

And with that the Battle of Octavia ended. All three side's forces stood down. All of them ready to respond and wary but neither side wanted the fighting to resume.

"We will have a ceasefire in effect from this moment on, we will then send a diplomat to negotiate a peace treaty."

Several hours later the diplomat land in the capital city of the NRE. The opening offer from the OU was:

The emancipation of all slaves
The revocation of all Letters of Marque.
OU$100,000,000,000 to pay for repair and replacement of ships damaged from privateers and NRE forces.
The NRE claims full responibility for this war

The Emperor and the Senate voted unanimously to accept the terms of the Oceania Union.

The privateers that had attacked the Asgard and DE were rounded up, extradited to the offending empires, and their property auctioned off to pay damages.

A simile came to the face of Admiral Fisher as he read the message. They'd won everything they'd gone to war for, for the cost of a few thousand causalities and a pair of crippled cruisers. He looked down on the now cratered world of Mars. A pity they'd inflicted so much damage, the dust would take weeks to come down and the radioactivity would need cleaning up. So would two hundred thousand or so bodies, though they'd only find a fraction of them.

"This is KNS news continuing our live continuous coverage of the war with Rome. Where just getting word now that Admiral Harrow will be giving a major press conference in minutes."
The camera shifted to the second reporter
"For those of you just tuning in, the war with Rome has recently taken an unexpected turn with the Romans asking for an receiving a temporary cease fire. Reports that permanent cease fire has been signed are rampant but without confirmation."
The reporter stopped.
"It appears the conference is about to begin."
A new stage come up, the Imperial Standard of Kokand hung behind a podium. A man in an Admirals uniform stepped up to it. Admiral Harrow, spokes person for what was being called Rapier Claw.

"I'm hear to announce quite simply that it is over. Today at twenty hundred hours KST representatives from The Kokand Empire and New Roman Empire signed a permanent cease fire with the following terms.
Number one, the NRE will cede its Mars colony to Kokand, and remove all forces and personal from the planet. This new base will be used by Kokand to monitor NRE compliance with this treaty and to support its allies within the sol system.
Number two, the NRE will cease all privateers operations immediately
Number three, the powers harmed by NRE will be compensated for there losses from such actions. Negotiations for the amount of this compensation are being worked out independently.
Number four, all non-convict slaves will be emancipated within the NRE and convicts will no longer be forced to fight in the gladiatorial games. These games shall hence be run using only volunteer gladiators.
Number five, all non-convict slaves will be given reparations and offered resettlement within the NRE, Kokand Empire or another star nation of their choice.
Once these conditions are met, a permanent peace treaty will come into effect. That is all." The Admiral stepped back and walked away, leaving aids to answer a furry of questions.

The camera eventually cut back to the studio.

"We'll there you have it, this short war is at an end."

[1] The NRE will cede its Mars colony to Kokand, and remove all forces and personal from the planet

The first of the Floater attack carriers burst into normal space, lancer swarms fanning out into a defensive screen thousands of kilometers wide. Seconds later, strike cruisers, sleek and black, nosed out of hyperspace like hungry sharks, warshawski sails sparking like young stars in the blackness of space. Finally, the massive Cluster began translation, an inelegant collection of massive asteroids and spindle-shaped construction yards. The United Floater Navy's First Fleet had entered the Octavius system.

Subspace communications equipment activated immeditaly, repeating the message- The Floater Republics applaud the forward-thinking action of the Roman senate, and are willing to sign a non-agression pact. Floater transports stood ready to take any freed Roman slaves who wished off to the clusters, where they could begin new lives as members of the Unbound.

OAVs, refitted as rescue ships, leapt ahead of the main fleet, heading for Octavius. There, they would comb the wreckage of the Roman fleet, searching for survivors. The time for action had come, but it was not the action the Floater naval officers had expected. There would be no more war in the Octavius system.

Colonel General Josef Arkadyevich Gyurzashvili read the orders on his tactical screen with a tight smile. He was a Georgian, only technically a citizen of the Pan-Slavic Republic, but he was most definitely a Slavic nationalist. As such, he viewed the results with a mixture of victory and regret. Slavery was ended in the NRE, but he had not been able to get his victory. His division had been the first into Bulgaria, and had been quite successful. The second wave would only have been more so.

Their numbers were overwhelming; the renewed assault could not have failed to shatter the lines in Bulgaria, though the Alpine passes would have been more difficult. The attempted nuclear attack on their own territory had been a desperate gasp for room--though the appearance of the OU was fortuitous, the Home Fleet had been easily within range to deal with the threat. In the Balkans, at least, it would have been a fast moving mobile battle, with great glory and inevitable victory.

It was too bad that peace had got in Gyurzashvili's way.

The Prime Minister concluded the speech with a call for the Duma to pass bills guaranteeing economic assistance to former slaves and to assist the New Roman Empire in transitioning into a fully free-worker based economy. With the administration's approval rating soaring to an unprecedented 80%, the chances of the bills failing are miniscule.

*Snap-hiss* The blue energy flashed in a blur of motion, deflecting painful training blasts fired from a half-dozen hovering bots surrounding a lithe, muscular figure. The blind-folded figure waited patiently, controlling his breathing as the bots circled dangerously. Just before they fired, the figure sprang into action, deflecting a beam as he threw himself into a backflip. The figure suddenly relaxed and gave an annoyed sigh as he made a lazy gesture toward a switch on the wall. It flipped itself off and the bots floated back into their containers. By the time they had gotten there, the Jedi Arthur Tuxedo had already removed his blindfold and opened his door. A surprised man stood there, his hand in position to knock on the door.

"I thought I told you not to interrupt me when I'm practicing."

The lackey quickly composed himself. "The King wishes to speak with you."

Arthur sighed.

"Shall I esc-" Arthur cut him off mid-sentence by brushing past him and walking down the hallway. He walked unannounced into the King's office.

The King was at his desk, having just hung up the phone. "That was our ITA representative. We need to take a stance on this New Roman Empire issue. The other powers won't abide our continued fence sitting any longer."

Arthur rubbed his chin. "Fine. Make the following statement: 'The United Pirate Kingdom has reviewed the situation, and we cannot abide the trading in human cargo. It is a disgrace to civilization, and we support the actions in the Octavia system.' That should satisfy them."

"Should we commit forces?"

"Of course not. Let the other powers fight amongst themselves while we colonize and build. And don't piss anyone off without consulting me first. If there's wars to be fought, I want our empire to be in top shape."

"Don't talk to me in that tone of voice. I'm the King. I'm still in charge around here. Don't you forget that!"

Arthur smiled a wry smile. "Of course you are." With that he walked out of the King's office.

The Starfleet has claimed all New Roman Empire hulks in orbit of Mars as its property. We expect the NRE will have no problem with this. The Starfleet will be auctioning off salvage rights to these hulks in several days once they have been swept for bodies and ordinance. The only requirements are that the hulks be removed promptly and that any vessels, which might be repaired, are sold only to legitimate star nations and companies. We have no desire to see these vessels in the hands of pirates, though few could be repaired in any case.

Perhaps three battle stations and six Adoreae class vessels? The stations took heavy external damage but had only limited internal penetrations. The Adoreae craft where heavily hit, but also retain at least some useful equipment and might be restored.

The Demonhiem Fleet were still in bound, the salvage crews were ordered to back away, and hold station. The boarding force would now consist of armoured marine EVAs these could stand up to most of the personal weapons, and could possibly contain a "Foe" fresh from a regen chamber.

The Vessel was not very big, by foe standards, a harvest/transport vessel, still before taking on damage it would have dwarfed anything used by the packs.

<Greetings Skaven, & Monacronians this is not an invasion, we have just found a heavily damaged vessel belonging to the an extra-galactic race. The aliens perfer to enslave and use humans as hosts, for their parasitic bodyies. They are very dangerous, the "false gods" that created the Fenris made us to fight these beings and their massive slave armies. Presently we have a fleet of 50 ships enroute including Mine tenders, specialized boarding ships, Missile cruisers, and defense cruisers.

There is concern that someone may be missing this long sleeping enemy, and it is our belief that the enemy has survived all of this time since (his) vessel was disabled by hiding in a rejuvenation chamber. Such a being will be VERY dangerous once the inner chamber is breached. The Parasite race is a threat to humans but not to non-humans, however they are very paranoid and dangerous and always leave behind many traps, it is also a possibility that this vessel could be a trap as well.

Our intial interest is in fuel and weapons on board. While their plasma weapons are inferior to the missile weapons used by my race, they do not require reloading, and can be used quickly by untrained forces. They also possess personal weapons of far greater power, and are masters of bioweapontry. please take care.
