ATTN: All empires who trade with the UPK
From: The office of King Dagnar
Re: Change in corporate policy
Since contact and trade with other empires was established, we have noticed that outlawing large corporations puts us at a distinct disadvantage. Therefore, we have decided to strike that law, but have enacted strict guidelines to prevent monopoly and unfair pricing. Look forward to more and better goods from the United Pirate Kingdom in the future.

Ted was in the tube system travelling from Andorra to Monaco, reading his news reader. The first two stories were spoken all in their names, "Pirates Found on Perimeter of Far Point Restricted Zone, Ships Boarded and Confiscated" and "Millions of Dollars of Aid pour into the NRE, while regiments are pulled back from Eastern Front."
The Next one made him stop, "Hyper-Driver used against Pirate Base"
The Article explained how the Pirate Ship captured before had lead them back to a base of Pirates on a Habitable Moon in a distant system. Once there the fleet swatted down all enemies, and then rather then land with Marines the Hyper-Driver obliberated the Moon. Video attached showed the Monacoran Fleet engage in battle, form a quick perimeter defence while it still fought off fighters, then four Long Tube ships that looked like they had bladders at one end decloaked and launched three volleys of asteroids, one right after another after a fifteen second loading time according to the Article, fly into the moon, burn slightly on entry and then create huge craters obliberating any base that there could of been there. The Ships then decloaked, and the Monacoran fleet headed out.

Gaius handed a data tablet to his father.
"It is all here."
"What is it, exactly?"
"Legalisms. A legion's nominal strength has been officially pegged at ten thousand strong. Thanks have been given to the Hegemony. Arrangements have been made to crew the Hegemon shipyards."
"Excuse me?"
Gaius spread his hands.
"The spirited defense of the Hegemony fleet has won my heart as it has yours. However, I prefer to take no chances. Our own technicians and analysts will be scrutinzing the construction process to ensure that no unwelcome suprises find their ways onto our ships."
"I find this wise."
"Excellant. There are some other matters to be dealt with, of course. I have made provisions for raising fresh legions on Gladius. I've stripped the REL of several legions and dispatched them to Graecia to bolster the garrison. I've also split the Offworld Praetorians and dispatched them to form a third Praetorian Guard centered around Byzantium. "
"And the fighting along the Graeciae front?"
"Has effectively ended. Our second wave of tac nukes appears to have decimated several enemy formations shortly before we negotiated peace. The OU was unable to destroy our sheltered batteries and our air reserves have been pitched into patrolling the front to assure our troops some measure of security. The Praetorians were slowly pushing the Slavs out of the Alps before peace broke out."
"Slavic losses?"
"Unknown."
"I trust they made no mention of them?"
"Not on any public channels."
"You think quickly, son. I applaud your initiative."
"Thank you, father."

Standing on the deck of a Lupus cruiser, Gaius finally appreciated the magnificent importance of this place. Even when it seemed that Augustia would fall, his father had refused to recall the small, secret squadron stationed here.
The Emperor Romulus Augustus sipped on imported wine and waited. To Gaius, the silence was awkward. He attempted to strike up a conversation.
"We've sold the scrap-harvesting job to de'Lorin Shipping Co. They put in quite a low bid and have gone about thier job quite effectively. Admiral Decimus and his cadre of officers have already drawn up plans for redesigning Octavius' defenses. He's also put in a plan for reorganizing the navy, fleshing it out, preparing the-"
"Enough! I do not wish to speak of warships."
"Father, that is the reason we are here."
"It is...it is. Tell me, Gaius, how am I to pay for all of this? For the indemnities, the scrap hauling, the reprocessing, the R&D, the construction of our brave new fleet, the raising of our grand new legions? The people are angry. Disgruntled. They burn at the loss of Mars. And yes, I know you do, you needn't remind me. I have seen the candles you burn at night, when you think you are not watched."
Gaius suppressed a brief flash of irritation.
"Aid, father. The other powers have sent us aid packages to get on our feet, or so they say. The Hegemony's shipyards will speed up our production, and a new tax or two on the people-"
"I will not tax the people any further."
"Then perhaps a tax on the Church. On tithes. Candles. Cloth. Patriachal business. The Patriatchs will grumble, but they will acquiese."
"I am a Patriarch." The emperor said irritably. Gaius spread his hands.
"You are the Emperor. There can be exceptions."
At length a short, slender man with a ratty face emerged onto the observation deck. He was dressed in a military uniform and carried a data tablet by his side. He bowed deeply upon entering.
"My Emperor."
Romulus waved a hand. "Get on with it."
The ratty man nodded. He punched some numbers in his data tablet, then walked to the window to stand with the Emperor and his son.
"You are here, of course, to investigate our progress into Project L? I have assured you that it is completely operational. This visit was unnecessary."
"I am Emperor. I deemed it necessary."
"Of course. I do not dispute your authority, Caesar. Witness Project L."
Somewhere out in the distance, an Arcus, invisible to the eye, slid open it's gunports. A thousand tiny darts shot forward, closing in on the Lupi. This much was not apparent to Gaius until klaxons began to blare around him, alerting him of the imminent danger.
He was about to raise some cry when the viewport shifted into a three dimensional tactical display. Nearly a dozen largish spheres shot out from the Lupus to meet the oncoming swarm- and the burst. Missile contacts flared and died. The effect was tremendous; the swarm was decimated. The few that had evaded the wave of destruction were easily picked off by the Lupi's lasers.
Gaius was momentarily stunned. Romulus nodded sagely. The ratty man began to explain.
"The effect you just saw is achieved by detonating specialized missiles designed to emit a wide pulse of X-rays pumped by the bomb's explosion. Typical explosion is rated at around one megaton, and as the pulse expands it declines to somewhere in the mid-kiloton range. Enough to destroy nearly any missile and cripple most fighters."
"This would have been most useful during the war." observed Gaius. Romulus rolled his eyes. The ratty man shrugged.
"There was not enough funding. Speaking of funding, Caesar...the grapple requires more of it." Romulus fumed.
"I have no more money to give!"
Gaius frowned. This was something new.
"Then you cannot have the grapple. We still must complete several lab-tests before practical tests can be begun."
"You are certain no knowledge of it has been leaked?"
"How could it? This is a deep-space outpost. The jammers prevent any messages from being transmitted. And of course, my colleagues and I cannot leave this place."
"You knew what you were getting into when you signed up."
"Indeed. I trust you are satifised with Project L?"
"Very much so. Gaius; see that the design is implemented at once."
Gaius nodded.
"And the grapple...?" he asked.
"Is none of your concern. Good day, Professor. The Saints smile upon you."

The NRE economy is currently looking at downturns as a result of the recent losses. The Minmatar will support NRE membership IF they take steps to remedy this situation. Accepting franchise deals from the ATJ is a good start, however, if the Romans are also willing to grant trading rights to Minmatar multinational corporations (who will be paying taxes to the NRE government for such trading rights) then the Minmatar will support NRE membership and will Veto any bill proposing trade sanctions against the NRE.

ATJ ConglomoCorp will wish for payment to be made in the form of ITA trade debt. This payment will be made in advance for the first 3 shipments of 1 million standard dailies (1 day worth of food for 1 person). After this probationary period we will pay on delivery of goods.
We hope that these terms are acceptable to the NRE and their newfound member-friends in the ITA.

The Minmatar would like to remind all ITA members that they all have a voice and it is up to them wether or not they choose to use it. The Minmatar advise that the ITA adopt the 48 hour time period as the standard voting window on all proposals.

[Vahalla System - Asgard Naval Headquarters]
"So Commader, what are the results of the analysis of the Battle of Octavia?", inquired the grizzled First Space Lord.
"Well sir, to put it mildly we handed them their asses. The initial missle salvos were pure over kill. Most warships were hit with more contact warheads than they could ever have survived. Only mutual fratricide among the missles saved any Roman ships."
The young commander continued
"Their point defense was far, far below standard. Quantity more than anything. They simply didn't have enough. What they do have is far below our projections in terms of quality. Their ECM was ineffective, part due to the fact they were sitting targets and suprised, part their design style. The Roman's designed them for energy duels and they paid for it when they had to deal with our ships. They were fairly effective against fighters but even then the loss ratio was acceptable."
The Admirals pondered that as the young commander stood nervously.
"Thank you, commander, that's all."
He departed as the First Space Lord turned to his Cheif of Staff.
"Well? What'd you think? You know as well as I do that the Roman's aren't going to roll over and play dead."
"To be perfectly honest sir some of their stuff in the pipeline has me worried. Our agents in their R&D haven't gotten as much to us as I'd like. Some of it sounds down right ominous."
"Think it'll make a difference?"
"Some, not enough unless they manage to gang pile us. It'll be nasty but it won't do to much to change the balance of power. Our own projects are coming along nicely. The naval expansion is progressing but I think we should reconsider the mix of ships."
"What did have in mind Clancy?"

The NRE aren't ITA members just yet, but Minmatar state sponsored freighter convoys have some extra room on them if you want them to deliver supplies as a means of reducing distribution costs.weemadando wrote:ATJ ConglomoCorp will wish for payment to be made in the form of ITA trade debt. I am sure that in its dealings with the ITA the NRE have acquired at least some ITA debt. [OOC: the majority of the worlds fiscal transactions are in debt IIRC]Spyder wrote: The NRE aren't ITA members just yet, but Minmatar state sponsored freighter convoys have some extra room on them if you want them to deliver supplies as a means of reducing distribution costs.
Delivering of supplies is no problem to the ATJ ConglomoCorp. We seek to trade in the highly lucrative debt market, as natural resources are un-neccessary at this point and hard currency is rather spongy in a galactic situation.

"Zarathrustra, Kharam, and Mohaim Military Build-Up"
This is Lovebound Ernst Schroedinger, 'casting from the MNN headquarters here at the lovely Lu-Tze Cluster. The latest news is a bit grim, if you are a Peace Party dove- but if you, like myself and the rest of us here at FMNN, support our united military, this news is great!
Some of our best thinker-boys over at the Sun-Tzu military cluster have been cooking up designs for a new generation of dreadnought-class vessels. The specifics are under wraps, but I can assure you, kiddoes, that they will take missile warfare into the new century. To quote Bondman President Jeffery Il Jong,
" The recent actions taken by Heavy powers during the Four Hour War have shown us once again that this galaxy is too dangerous for us to simply float by, unnoticed. The Republics must remain strong, and to this end, we of the Council of the Four Republics are working to implement a new, more powerful navy- one which can protect all the Unbound across known space."
The keels for the five new "Republic"-class Dreadnoughts currently under construction will be laid in the Womb. Whoa, you say- Isn't there a dreamship under construction at the Womb? Which brings us to our next order of business-
The Dreamship "Santander" will be departing from our little corner of the galaxy, with records of all Floater civilization has seen or heard, and 3 million colonists, frozen in deepsleep. Our 32cnd such vessel, she has an estimated travel time of three thousand years! So, rest in peace, Dreamers! carry the seed of our civilization, and populate the galaxy!
Lastly, the FMNN's sources have reported that a full carrier group of Xanadar naval vessels have left the Taiga system for parts unknown. Any freeman/bondman/lovebound who happens to know what the hell is going on here, please, contact us over your Great Cluster connection, or follow the link at the bottom of this page. We want to know what the hell is going on!
May the peace of the void be with you, brothers and sister.
