Can you recommend a good PC game

Post by Superman »

I am going to go pick one up tonight. I love RTS games, but that "Privateer" looks good. Any suggestions? How are "Cossacks," "Fortress," or "Preatorian?"

I'm not sure if it still sells, but Total Annihilation and its expansion set, Core Contigency, are really good for RTS's.

If you have a super-fast comp, you could also try getting CnC Generals.

Or you could just wait and save your money for Half-Life 2 :P

RTS games?

Get yourself in a budget bin:

Ground Control,

Homeworld

and

Combat Mission.

The total costs of all these combined should be less than 1 new game.

Combat Mission is not an RTS, but it is one of the best WWII strategy games ever.

Age of Mythology is pretty good.

Praetorians - not so good.

Cossacks - excellent. (but the game is rather silent)

I highly reccomend CnC Red Alert2 for good clean fun RTS action, it should also be available as a bundled set(RA2 and Yuri's Revenge) for only like $20

If you want somethiong with more depth, snag a copy of Medieval: Total War, its eaten vast hours out of my life so far.

Age of Kings. The best there was, the best there is, and the best there'll ever be. Age of Mythology is nice, but there are problems with the pop limit. Cossacks is excellent, provided you want something to REALLY challenge you. While the original Age of Empires and Warcraft are classics, I only play them at friend's houses.

I keep hearing good things about Cossacks, is it more Age of Kings or Total War?

I don't know what Total War is like, but Cossacks is hardcore. WARNING: Not for those that are frustrated easily

Never played Total Annihilation then?
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

hmmmm.... the star trek action pack is good. 3 good games (armada 1 and 2 and elite force and its expansion) for only 20-30 bucks. OR the mech assualt pack (mech commander 2 and MW4 and BK) for about 35. but def go with bargin bin or collections. there are some good ones out there. You can get fallout 1 AND 2 for only 10 bucks just about anywhere.

Europa Universalis 2 is very good.

If you see a copy of Total Annihlation, get it. It's old, but it's still a very strong contender for the best RTS game ever made.

I don't even like RTS that much (too focused on rapid clicking, not enough strategy) and I still love that game.
