I have no idea how it came to this.

Post by Robert Treder »

Suddenly I find myself at 02:37 writing a god-damned 10-page research paper on the CANDU nuclear reactor system. Did I mention that I have no god damned knowledge of nuclear reactors?
And if it were simply an expository essay, that would be no sweat, but I've got to fucking argue in favor of nuclear power over fossil fuels. This is just god damned great.
Oh, and I also have a term paper due tomorrow about whether or not religion is necessary for morality. I can't get past the first page on that one. Then I have another term paper due next week about something that I can't even remember right now.

I fucking hate this shit. Papers aren't a test of skill, they're just busywork. And they're keeping me too fucking busy. I should be playing Hearts of Iron right now.

Rant over.

Well, I could help. Help garantee an F, that is.

Nuclear Power better than fossil fuel? Yup. Until something goes wrong!

Religion needed for morality? Fuck no!

Yeah, my problem with the religion paper is that I really don't feel like reiterating what's been said so many times before. If my prof felt that religion was necessary for morality, maybe I'd be a bit more motivated because of the chance to piss him off, but as it is, I'm not going to be telling him anything he doesn't already know.
Also, I don't see how I could possibly write 8 pages on it. Here's the only necessary argument:

premise the first: I am not religious.
premise the second: I am moral.
conclusion: Religion is not necessary for morality.

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am.

Gah. I suppose I'll just paraphrase the textbook's entire chapter on religion and morality.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

If you were on the same continent and I wasn't so lazy and weak then I'd probably threaten you over butchering the English language so.

So... there.

I should bloody know too, I've got a whole load of course work deadlines coming up and, per Harry standard procedure, I've left it all to the last second.

Well you still need to prove that you really are not religious and really are moral. Now there's the makings of a 100-page philosophical argument  ...

You could start by explaining the dif between fossil and nuclear fuels. Nuclear being the decay of uranium producing radiation and fossil fuels being the burning of hydrocarbons.

Just out of curiosity how did you end up having to write a paper on something you know nothing about?

You could also argue in favor of alternate fuels not currently being used right now like methane. There's twice as much methane frozen on the ocean floor than there is all other fossil fuels put togather. Unfortunately, to make use of it you have to keep it under alot of pressure while your bringing it to the surface. Even if we could do it, methane seems to act as a sort of bond for the sea floor, so mining it could create under water landsides. Environmental problems just about anyway you go.

I have to argue one way or another, and I already got the teacher's signature on my planning report of a pro-nuclear thesis.

I got the rough draft approved today, and the paper is due tomorrow. All I have to do is compile a bunch of shit for my "research log", clean up my draft, add in two more sources, and I'm set.
Then it's on to two term papers for my philosophy class. Plus I have a meeting tonight at work about my possible promotion. Plus I have to put in a six-hour shift.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
