Here we have a bunch of ambitious assholes on the police department, the DA's office, and the child welfare office trying to make names for themselves busting "child pornographers" and merrily ruining two good parents' lives in the process. What a sad and sorry sack of shit. Everyone involved should be fired.

Everybody involved in this case should be sacked, and the family should be given compensation for their emotional trauma and wasted time. This is sick and wrong, and says more about the DA's office than it EVER could about them.

The frightening thing is that this isn't an isolated incident. In fact it is becoming quite a common thing to happen. Almost any photo's of children where they aren't fully clothed could be siezed by law enforcement and see you going to jail for "child porn". Recently in Scotland there was an almight uproar because Edinburgh City Council had banned parent's from taking photos or videos of schools nativity plays again because of the paranoia about paedophilia. The simple fact of is that there is a witchhunt on at the moment and unless you are carefull about what you do you may well be caught up in it.

If I were a clerk and processed photographs of children being displayed naked consistently - in bathtubs, breastfeeding, or worse, in bed -, I'd have to say I'd have at least questioned my supervisor.

Using the camera's timer, they also took three snapshots of themselves, naked in their bed. They arranged their bodies in ways that showed less flesh than most freeway billboards.

A half-dozen others recorded the kids at bath time. Fernandez took several photos of the boys "playing around," naked and innocent, with the oldest flashing a big smile. Mercado, who says she often bathed with the kids, is in several of the shots unclothed from the waist up, holding her arm modestly across her bare chest.

In one--the photo that would threaten to send Mercado and her boyfriend to prison--the infant Rodrigo is suckling her left breast.

I can see why they decided to report it. Were those to go beyond the family they could be considered child porn. I think there was nothing wrong with looking into things further.

As it is it's an overreaction since the pictures were just family photos. They were innocent, if weird, family photos. That should have been the end of it but of course they overreacted.
