I think they reacted like they did because there's more than just one picture. It seems like there are quite a few in what they dropped off. And frankly given the poses in the pictures, if that went anywhere but the family scrap book it'd be kiddie porn.verilon wrote:o O is all I have to say.. It has nothing to do with the woman's body and everything to do with pictures of naked kids. They were right to look into it but they shouldn't have taken the kids.Hamel wrote:Why do you and Simon want to shift attention away from the xtian conservatism which is the root cause of this mess? Yes, the red flags going up I'd understand, but I agree, taking away the kids was an overreaction. But given our "standards" in our government sometimes, I'm not too surprised. i agree, it is part religious, but how can you scream conservative? The Texas Legislature has been in democrat control for the bulk of the past 30 years. and up until George Bush 4 of the previous 5 governors were Democrats (John Connally, Mark White, Dolph Briscoe and Ann Richards). I think it has much more to do with the big government collossus created by them.Hamel wrote:Why do you and Simon want to shift attention away from the xtian conservatism which is the root cause of this mess? "Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

however for decades Texas was controlled by people who had strong liberal ideals with regard to finance, taxation and the role of government.

I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure that the knee-jerk uberreaction of seeing Child Porn everywhere may be just as much a problem of the Politically Correct side of the line as with the Conservatives... nowadays our society is so scared of anything that even hints of 'exploitation' or impropriety that they jump on the witch-hunt bandwagon at the drop of a hat.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

You should be a comedian. During these same decades, Texas has gotten progressively worse due to conservative decision making. Dallas, Austin, and other cities are polluted shitholes, which is worse than it sounds considering the flat land and wind should carry the pollution off. However, the pollution is bad enough that the powerful slef-cleaning properties of the land don't work anymore. LA at least has an excuse considering the pollution settles in a bowl. All of this, of course, is due to conservatives ruining regulations and letting the businesses do whatever they please. Considering the stranglehold the oil industry has on Texas, I doubt they make many liberal economic decisions.social liberal? no

It is a reaction to seeing what easily could be construed as child porn. It's not a liberal or conservative thing. Neither side is likely to have reacted differently.Coyote wrote:I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure that the knee-jerk uberreaction of seeing Child Porn everywhere may be just as much a problem of the Politically Correct side of the line as with the Conservatives... nowadays our society is so scared of anything that even hints of 'exploitation' or impropriety that they jump on the witch-hunt bandwagon at the drop of a hat.
They jumped on it because it was fishy (and lets face it, it is weird). I don't blame them for that though I think it was an overreaction. They moved so quickly to prevent possible sexual exploitation of children.

It's the extremes of the system. And lets face it, those were strange family photos. Most families don't take rolls worth of nude shots of them with their kids. If that had been in some one else hands it would have been kiddie porn.PrinceofLowLight wrote:Hmm...in one state, children are locked in a room for days at a time, tortured and fed animal crap with nary a word...and now we're having kids taken away for some family photos...
Taking the kids was an overreaction once it became clear it wasn't for pornographic purposes. That was an overreaction but those photos should have raised red flags.

Most likely there was no choice, you would be surprised at how the laws are structured in terms of child welfare and custody. SOmetimes there are systems in place that once triggered create a process that has to be followed through. In the case of allegations of child abuse and porn, there is a save the kid first ask questions later, almost a sort of guilty until proven innocent attitude.
The bad part is when it goes horribly wrong like here, but I ask you this, would it be prefreabble to subject an innocent family to a legal headache or to have a child killed when the child welfare system doesn't work? And don't say neither because we're all big enough to know that it can't work that way, there's a balance inherent in systems like this and currently it is skewed towards protecting the child over protecting the rights of the parent. Imagine the uproar we would have if parents are havinga child porn ring and a slow investigation begins meanwhile the kids are slaving away making child porn, or worse, an investigation of a physically abusive parent that escalates once he or she is under investigation and kills the child in frustration.
I'm not saying this wasn't wrong, but we have to understand the system in place.
Given the amount of cases Texas has been involved in terms of civil rights and privacy issues, I am NOT surprised when I read about fuck ups like this in Texas...perhaps Texas itself should be declared unconstitutional and reformed.
