Games that would work as movies...

Castlevania.

Imagine- 100 years after the death of Vlad the Impaler, a castle rises in the Carpathian wilderness. Flying from the walls are the flags of the order of the Dragon- Vlad is back. But the Belmont family knows th etruth- that shortly after his death, Dracula arose as a vampire. A Belmont staked and decapitated him, but not before he placed a curse on the belmont line that he would return for them- and the world.

Now Simon Belmont, the heir of the Vampire Hunter line, must enter the castle and destroy the demonic king of Wallachia. But that won't be so easy, since many are coming to Castelvania rejoicing in the king's return, not knowing the dark side to it (People in Romania to this day long for the return of Vlad Dracula). Leaving him with many vampires and other things to do battle with. And his only hope in surviving long enough to destroy the Count is one of them- Adrian Tepes, the son of Vlad, also known as Alucard.

Any other ideas?

I think a Homeworld movie would make for some kick-ass space battles.

Halflife was a dodgy old style sci-fi film wasnt it?
Better special effects too ;)

Lets see....anyone think Flashback would make a good movie?

C&C. Take the hammy actors from the cutscenes, and put them in actual full-length films. You could go through the epic struggle of the GDI to conquer Kane and the growing Tiberium infestation. Or you could saddle up with Allies and fight the Reds in a wacky sci-fi version of the past.

Would the actors from the games do well at all? Of course not. But then again, who would be watching the movie for the acting. I'm sure there'd be plenty of tank fights and bombing runs and spec-op missions to keep me occupied.

The Metal Gear Solid games. They were half movie to begin with and they'd make great action movies.

Quake 2 (though not 1 or 3) would make a great movie. The plot reminded me of a cross between Clear and Present Danger and Starship Troopers. And the end boss would look fuckin' cool in CG.

Oh hell yes. Hitman 2 is MADE for the movies.
Diablo
Or not. But it could be cool if an HK director made it.
Something to do with Mechwarrior
Could be, but I really doubt it.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
I think a Blood Rayne movie will be seen before this. Unfortunate that.
Silent Hill (Take that Resident Evil!)
Haven't played it, but it sounded like it was good.
Metal Gear Solid / MGS:2
How about NO you fucking playstation fan whores!
Half-Life
Yes. Hell yes. And John Cusack was born for the role of Gordon Freeman.
Duke Nuke'em (1,2, or 3D)
NO. Well, yes. As long as Bruce Campbell plays Duke.
Warcraft 3
No.
Grand Theft AUto 3 / VC
And it would be rated what?

I think a well written Diablo 2 movie wcould be excellent. Take the story of Diablo 1, from the perspective of a young man in Tristram. His father and friends go down with the biship Lazerus and meet the Butcher, and die, so he's all alone, wihtout the means to hire passage out of the city. Then, a great warrior (with a rogue sidekick) arrives to clense the dungeons. He takes the boy down with him as a follower, and havoc ensues. We see the events through the perspective of a 17-18 year old boy, and we see some kick-ass action, with exploding spells, sword and bow work, and a battle with Diablo himself- and in the end, the Fighter dies, and the boy is the one who jabs the soulstone into his own skull- thus, we are set up for Diablo 2!

I think that a TV miniseries of movies (say ten) could be done on Freespace or Freespace 2. You take the basic plot but have someone create some characters to watch throughout the war. If done like Band of Brothers you can have a full hour for each episode and have ten episodes per series. That would make for one hell of a fun scifi series I think. As I said though, it would require some damn good writing to add in some characters and expand upon the few characters mentioned (Admiral Wolf, Admiral Shima, Admiral Bosch, Commander Snipes, etc...)

Battlefield 1942 would be good, though it's been done a few times.

Or FF7, it could be a 9 hour trilogy like LOTR.

I agree that a Freespace: The Great War would rock as a mini-series BoB style. Unfortunatly it would end up more like Wing Commander *shudders* than BoB.

I think Resident Evil would make a good movie(no that was not a Resident Evil movie, they just took three, THREE, names from the game(Racoon City, Umbrella, Nemesis) and made their own shitty movie. Wait, maybe T-Virus(I don't remember). If I see a resident evil movie, I think Code Veronica/ RE:0+1/ RE2 and/or 3 with just some basic changes from the original plot(cutting out all the puzzles, not as much fighting) and I want fucking Tyrant fighting. That Licker wasn't even a Licker, it was some unique creation of Anderson with a long tounge. I hated that movie and thought it story was infinately weak to the orginal RE's. And Milla's matrix moves pissed me the hell off. God damn it.

Operation Flashpoint if done right could be fun, with all the characters stories intertwining.

And in order to do Freespace you'd need a goddamn BRILLIANT script and director, just to get the feeling of utter desperation that accompanied the closing days of both the wars. Without that it would be pure shite.

I still think if you got some good writers who stay true to the game but put in real characters and development, you could manage. There would be combat, but there would also be the interaction between the characters. Imagine the episode where the Galatea dies, imagine the final episode starting with the attack on the Lucifer (the launch of the attack being done the previous episode along with the Titan battle) and then ending with the pilots coming to terms with the war and Earth being cut off.
