The Transporter of youth.
I don't know if this was ever brought up, so sorry if I'm just repeating what someone has already came up with this.
I was just watching TNG episode "Unnatural Selection" where Polaski (medical doctor) was affect by something to cause her to age. Then the crew using her original Unmodified DNA in junction with the Transporter reverted her back to her natural self. I'm not sure if the writers of that episode meant for this loophole to happen, but wouldn't it be possible for people to use sample of DNA, let us say from when they were teenagers, and use that to revert themselves to that age. I mean the process definitely didn't affect Polaski's memory, so people could become young again without losing their memory. Just a thought.

You forgot the first rule of treknology: any and all technobabble solutions will be forgotten about by the start of the next episode.

Your DNA as a zygote is the same as your DNA as a 30-year-old is the same as your DNA on your deathbed.

Wasn't there an episode in TNG where Picard, Guinan and Ro Laren became kids and Picard had to pretend he was Riker's son? IIRC they became kids due to a transporter accident...

For the most part, yes. However, it does lose a bit on the end of the chromosomes with each cell division. Those areas are called telomeres and have been theorized to be partly responsible for aging. They get replaced when the reproductive organs make the eggs and sperm which is how we are able to maintain our species over several generations. Of course, the way it was portrayed on Trek is grossly inaccurate (surprise, surprise). There are no known genes involved in aging.Howedar wrote:Your DNA as a zygote is the same as your DNA as a 30-year-old is the same as your DNA on your deathbed.

Both "Unnatural Selection" and "Rascals" suggest that the transporter could be used as a sort of "Fountain of Youth". Indeed, it ought to have numerous medical applications.

I think he was refering to the photo of himself as a cadet Picard had, where he was bald there too.Darth Servo wrote:Ah, but wasn't skippy seriously ill? Couldn't that account for the lack of hair?

Ah, I see. And in "All Good Things" Picard definitely had hair as a cadet. Got it. More proof that AGT was nothing but a Q-induced halucination.Gil Hamilton wrote:I think he was refering to the photo of himself as a cadet Picard had, where he was bald there too.Darth Servo wrote:Ah, but wasn't skippy seriously ill? Though you'd think that Q would at least try not to change aspects of Picards life too much. Picard would reject the illusion if his past was changed.Darth Servo wrote:Ah, I see. Besides, I don't think that AGT was an illusion, I just think that the writers decided to go in a different direction and ignore it.

I think they meant the episode "Tapestry" it has been awhile since I watched that episode, but I think that they briefly showed him as a young cadet before they put the old man(Stewart) in the cadet uniform.TheDarkling wrote:When did Picard appear as a Cadet in All Good Things?Darth Servo wrote:Ah, I see. Re: The Transporter of youth.
It happened in the TNG episode "rascals" where picard, ro laren, guinan and keiko all became 12 year old children. They were fine untill their shuttle encountered an anomaly and when they were beamed out they were all children. After extensive research Dr Crusher found that the a fault with the transporter misread their RNA and materialized them into 12 year olds. She later reversed the process but it was also clear that the federation has clear understanding of the process to repeat it. Though picard and others became children their mental conditions and memory was intact. Surprisingly they chose not stay this way. Instead of taking the chance to experience life as a young one again with all the wisdom of his previous life guiding him picard decided to reverse the process and become a bald old man again. The others did the same. It is clear this is a matter of personal choice as the technology is there but the federation has intentionaly closed the chance of a great oppurtunity to immortalise itself.brothersinarm wrote:I don't know if this was ever brought up, so sorry if I'm just repeating what someone has already came up with this.

It makes you wonder something.
Presumably, Starfleet has RNA records for there membership at various ages, thanks to medical records.
If not, grow a clone, and you get the RNA.
Why are they not requiring older starfleet officers to undergo "Youth Transportation" to get more out of them? Or offering it as part of retirement. You know "you gave your life to protect the Federation, so the Federation is giving you a chance to live a life as part of it"

experience and more knowledge are set off by alzheimer and the like. rejuvenated people might start to think for themself and notice all the bullshit the Fed's pulling. so they are just brainwashed into not thinking about it
