Maybe because:

True, but problems arise when our modern world seems to think that
a quickie fuck = a relationship.

There's a surefire 100% method to prevent unwanted pregnancies and
VD, and that's NOT TO FUCKING STICK IT IN.

But that would mean you'd have to have self control and responsibility,
and those are lost causes these days  Everyone would rather
just fuck like rabbits.
Fuck you Shep. Giving people guns we risk they'll go cahootz and shoot 'um up. My girlfriend and I practice protection and discresion well, thank you.

And they already tell you that 100% protection is abstinence. Though you're wrong in that any kind of sex play can result in pregnancy or venereal disease.

I believe shep wasn't refering to sex in real relationship, but to 'one-night-stands', which indeed are becoming more and more popular.

How about I fuck my girlfriend because...

a) She's my girlfriend
b) I'm committed to her
c) We like it
d) We take precautions

:?

People who do that shit need to be using condoms, diaphrams, and on the pill simultaneously while also being prepared to get an abortion.

That's fucked up shit--and it isn't for me.

Seconded, but I know a lot of people who are into that kind of thing - it's 'hip' to do that and they don't give a shit about the risks.

Its 'hip' to also do stupid shit like binge drink which is just demonstrating that you were never properly brought up with alcohol and are totally irresponsible and immature when given privledges.

Shitheads.

That binge drinking thing is also one of the reasons I hardly go out anymore these days, at almost every party around 3am they have to call the ambulance because of some damn retard, party over.

I'd like to fucking shoot the idiot who came up with that brilliant brainflash that guys with no experience at all are somehow qualified to discuss what is and isn't necessary in a relationship.

As for that moronic "abstinence" thing, it's true that the only 100% foolproof way to avoid VD is to die a virgin. It's also true that the only 100% foolproof way to avoid a car accident is to live in the mountains and never go near a road. And it's true that the only 100% foolproof way to eliminate murders with firearms is to outlaw all firearms, shut down all gun manufacturers and retailers and distributors, and create a massive police state. Does it occur to you that society must somehow function without 100% guarantees? And that while you may die a virgin, the rest of us won't?

It's good that you posted in this thread, Shep. Because with the nature of your arguments (along with Nathan F), you two have demonstrated precisely HOW we got into this textbook censorship mess in the first place: you think it's best to let people wallow in ignorance for their own good. The really strange thing is that you seem to believe it's only the "other side" which shouldn't be allowed to preach this.

Ah, so the only thing required in a relationship is fuckery, and lots of it?

Making sex the central point of your relation leads to bad things (TM) down
the road later on.

Black/white fallacy.

Fucking my girlfriend is hardly the only thing we do in our relationship, or that our relationship requires.

Yet you're going on about a pre-marital sex = bad angle, if I'm observing correctly, with the other side being "sex is all that's important." That's pure black/white.

And yes, sex is important to my relationship. Is it the only integral part? No.

Of course not, you black/white fallacy-peddler. But it is an essential component of a healthy relationship. Couples with bad sex lives soon become ex-couples.
Making sex the central point of your relation leads to bad things (TM) down the road later on.
Removing sex from your relationship leads to not having a relationship. And as a ten-year happily married man talking to a guy who's never even had a girlfriend, it's pretty fucking funny that you're trying to lecture ME on what's necessary for long-term relationship success.

Not to be crude but....just how long would you date someone without sex? 1 week, 1 month, 1 year.....? How long till its no longer a "real relationship" and just buddies?

Sex doesn't define a real relationship, Shep, but it IS an artifact of a real relationship.

There are two kinds of couples, in my experience: Those who have sex, and those who lie about not having sex. Among the first things I discovered when I got into a real relationship is that all the propaganda that a real relationship can be had that does not lead to sex is exactly that: propaganda.

Right. Well, that must explain why I've been with my girlfriend for six years now even though we haven't had sex...

It also doesn't mean it's a good idea. Some people are also engaged to be married for many years, and those stories often fail to end well.

I would be worried that after such a long time, finally "doing the deed" would make things weird. I mean if you and your partner don't trust each other enough to have sex after a few months...will you ever?
Besides sooner or later I would really want to get laid, I'm no priest. (no witty comments here please  )

I don't think it's because we don't trust each other. It's more of an issue with her mother (who is divorced etc...) not trusting me. Her mother is very controlling (yes, I know  ) so before she turned 18, she didn't have her own car, and I had trouble getting her mother to let me take her anywhere...

Who knows. We're both 18 now and she has her own car, so that problem is kind of out of the way.

Only 18 and dating for 6 years? Wow. Well that kinda makes things different, more of a logistics problem than anything else

Actually 19, but yeah, it is more of a logistics problem.

Having said that, we have dicussed sex with each other, so it's not like we haven't breached the topic.
