So I just got back from the grade's last, big dance, the only one anyone bothers to attend.

Well. I don't know if it's looks I don't have, or guts, or personality, or, more likely, all three, but I didn't dance with anyone and no one danced with me. Hell, even my best friend did, several times, and he rubbed it in every damn way he could. I basically just stood around and talked with some friends from school. After it was over, they all went to a party, one to which, unsuprisingly, I was not invited.

Well. Wasn't a total loss. I got a neat purple pen.

And hell. I'm young yet.

Did you ask anyone to dance? Good things do not always come to those who wait.

In fact, waiting on asking people to dance with you is seriously fugging stupid.

You know, Wong, that's the thing. I tried several times to steel myself up to it, but when I did, the person I was going to ask was either gone, taken, or ignoring me.

Eh. Like I said, I must lack guts.

I remember my yr12 ball. I tore the intercostal muscles and other back muscles all down the right side while playing hockey during the week prior. Even before this the girl who I had been interested in and had agreed to come along with me ditched me for someone else on the advice from her friend (an ex of mine who I'd had a messy break-up with). So there I was, dateless, on the table of people who couldn't get a table and even when some friends asked me to dance I couldn't. Yes, I had a truly shit night.

I thought he was 13, not 15.

Err, yeah, you'll probably have to ask somebody to dance... Have to take inititive. Can't expect to everybody to line up to ask you... It really helps if you have a close friend to egg you on :P

As for the party bit... The host may have forgot about you or isn't very close to you, hence them not inviting people they know well.

Maybe. Of course, over 50 people were invited, and his invitees were asked to invite others.

Nah, it just takes time. And practice. The first question always hurts the most. But after that it gets easier to ask. Because you're used to it now, or because you lack dignity. I'm yet to figure out which.

I went to a dance a few weeks ago. Despite almost nobody I knew coming, it all went fine until the girl I was chasing left early, probably to get away from me and think of a bullshit excuse for Monday. Then, I had to settle for another, less attractive girl that really wanted to dance with me.

I just can't get this kind of stuff to go right. First, I spend my junior high years acting like an idiot with no interest in dating. I switch to a public school, and am too shy to ask anyone to go out. The next year, I'm too loud and open about my feelings, and made the girls afraid of me. I'm guessing it's too late for me now. If a good girl isn't taken, she's probably single and giving me excuses for not going out with me. And I don't think I'm their type either. What I need to do is get a piercing, style my hair with ungodly amounts of gel until I look like I was electrocuted, and join the football team. Then, I should be all set.

Don't forget to push them around, shove them, and insult them. That seems to work for most of the guys in my school.

I went to another Senior Banquet last night. Pretty fun, actually. When you get older you find that people grow older with you.

I tell you man, college will be much better. Though it could just be my experience talking.

I was kind of the shy guy dork in high school, and there was no way any chick was going to ask me for a dance, so I had to go after them. Definitely hard at first, but it ain't that bad, definitely easier than asking my dad to borrow his car. Here's a tip, forget about asking the chick you think you can get, find the hottest chicks you see and ask them out. Why? If they say yes, you're set, and the rest of the chicks will be wondering what you got, if not, think to yourself "damn stupid uppity bitch" and move on to the next one. Simple as that.

Yeah, steeling up can be hard...but think of it this way, you're not going to die.

Seriously I mean it helps through certain times...I mean yeah rejection sucks but don't take it too bad, College is usually better(though going back to 10 year reunions are outlandishly funny at times...god I thought I was going into seeing a bunch of I dunno, but I saw that 95% of us didn't really leave, just go to different areas of the Northern Virgina/DC/MD area)

Sounds more like confidence. Like someone else has said, your still young.

Next dance, just ask. The worst they could say is no.

Heck, for all we know, by the time you turn 18 you'll be a babe magnet.

All it takes is time. I was dateless and danceless all through school, but eventually i found someone to take out. Try the ones who are quieter, or not so hot. more likely to be free, and be nicer. one thing i learnt: NEVER date someone because they look good.
