i found my TIE Fighter game and Ive decided to install it on my home computer. It install properly no problems and then when i go to play it its loads for a bit then stops with the message "Stack Overflow" appearing in DOS.

How do I fix this "stack Overflow" whatever the hell that is.

Have you got DOS sound drivers? Try "reboot into MSDOS" and playing it from there. Old 16bit game doesn't like windows much.

i'l give it a shot, thanks, its always worked on windows before though,95 and 98.

Does it have anything to do with my screen dimensions? A freind o mine said if I have it set to high it might flip it out.

Did it always work on this paticular computer? Or has the hardware changed?

TIE Fighter was notorioiusly picky about your DOS settings. If you're running it straight from DOS, edit your CONFIG.SYS file and enter the following line

Code: Select all

STACKS=9,512
You may need to play around with the first number (increment it), or set it to 0,0 instead.

If you're running it from Windows, right-click the icon and change its settings there.

Just remember:

STACKS=64,512 ;(this is the maximum allowed)

Ontop of this, just incase the game doesn't like Windows, you can go into the shortcut properties and set it so that it doesn't detect Windows.
