There's always one that gets these things right it seems, if it isn't Tom Clancy and hijacked planes going into federal buildings it's this.

Jeez, what's with this SARS scare? AIDS is a far, far worse epidemic; this has killed only 500 people.

True, but SARS is more infectious and more likely to mutate.

Not to mention in areas where health care is inadequate or places like China where they covered it up the death toll is horrendous. We're not seeing the worst of it here that's why it seems so ho-hum. It's bad, cities quarentined because nearly everyone sick and much higher deathrates than here. They've got it much, much worse.

And if anything that 500 is far lower than the real numbers. And whatever the death toll is, it's going to climb.

After reading through the summary of the plot, I have decided that the book is royally fucked up.

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

It's more 20-30% now given recent statistics.

As a bit of trivia, did you know that the Spanish Flu, the yardstick by which all modern pandemics are measured, only had a mortality rate of around 4%?

Woah, I must've missed the last time 99% of the populace was wiped out. Must've been a wild weekend when I was out or something.

Yeah, man. Between the looting of malls and robbing of supermarkets, everybody drank and played loud music. It was a lot of fun, too bad you missed it. :P

Hmm, SARS, this gives me a great idea for a novel about a killer virus that wipes out humanity.

I'll make millions!
