I think Russel was being overly optimistic when he said that, there are WAY too many stupid people in the world for that to ever happen.

Russell was also the one to blurt out that Aquinas's cosmological argument was correct in front of complete strangers... hmmm...

So long as men use reason and logic as their guide, religion will persist indefinitely.

So Atheism is "bad" because it does cater to your need for comforting delusions? Yeah, right.

Yes, I would much appriciate it if you would actualy make a single solid arqument instead of mindless trolling, but I know better then to expect that from a teenie-troll such as you.

No hope?!?!?
Anyone with nerve endings can experience all that ever needs to be learned about absolute right and wrong.
And moral relati...relativisi...what? :D
Injury and death are universally recognised as morally wrong to inflict upon others, just to name the obvious, how do you claim someone can believe otherwise?

1. Some source for this claim would be nice to see.
2. Even if he did that it doesn't make silly cosmological arqument valid.
3. Have you ever read "Why I am Not a Christian" by Bertrand Russel?

Your unhealthy worldview precludes any absolutes, save for the one which states there are absolutely no absolutes.

Go figure...

Oh my! An atheist appealing to moral absolutism! Hypocrisy and inconsistency are an ever-recurring theme for the typical atheist.

BTW: How do you explain murder, rape, mutilation, and the host of other abhorrent behaviors human beings engage in? How do you reconcile the existence of cultures which do harm unto others and consider it perfectly acceptable?

If you have no God to decree morality, then whence does it come?! Man-made?! Reducing morality from a universal absolute to individual convictions is most dangerous... :)

Take note:

Culture A: Rape is OK.
Culture B: Rape is wrong.

Which one is right? For the atheist, the answer is neither. Right and wrong are what each person make of them. Don't be surprised when you get something utterly distateful as a result...

In my experience, men of lofty religions are often more compassionate and peaceful than atheists, Muslims, and the like.

Correction: Russell deemed the ontological, and not the cosmological, argument to be valid.

No, a dangerous implication of your destructive ideology.

I think you'll seldom find an atheist who does not believe his beliefs are right and all others are wrong, hence the comment, the veracity of which is quite tenable.

1. Atheism is not a belief system, it is only the idea that there is no such thing as god.
2. How do you explain that religious people have engaged in questionable behaviour, in order to force their beliefs upon others??

As if Christianity has given any better. At least the pagans were religious tolerant.

Also, broad type casting, like the one you've made about atheist, is an excellent example of religious intolerance. Look at yourself before you bash someone else.

Oh, and to this atheist, rape is wrong, period. That doesn't fit your sterotype, does it? Its funny, you've defended the statement that atheist are intolerant and bigoted, while you've been nothing but through the whole argument.
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

I am an antheist. I consider Culture B is right. I have thereofre disproved you silly generalisation that all atheists would consider neither right/wrpmg. Atheism says nothing about morality. All atheism is, is a lack of belief in a deity.
EvilGrey wrote: In my experience, men of lofty religions are often more compassionate and peaceful than atheists, Muslims, and the like.
And in my experience the reverse is true, but our individual experience is irrelevant, as neither of us has encourtered enough peopl;e to make an accurate sample, nor is either of us unbiased. However I suggest you look at the quotes on the page linked at the beggining of this thread to see aome good examples of "men of lofty religions" who are definately not compassionate nor peaceful. And by the way, I should point out that many muslims may consider themselves to be 'men of a lofty religion'.
For somone who is criticising atheists for being bigotted that is a bigoted statement against muslims.

Idiot mortal. Your 'God' is an amoral asshole who slew an entire world, is this the morality we should follow? Nay, of course not. Your God may not be as blind or dumb as Azathoth, nor as drunken as Dionysis, but he is certainly cruel and evil by any objective analysis.

So yes, morality does flow from me to myself, as every other mortal can. It requires one to take responsibility.. Something idiots and toadies like you rarely are capable of. Secular humanist morals are based on what harms people.. Things like murder, rape, theft, et cetera. They do not allow loopholes, like your Christianity does.

So, little idiot, how is it better to listen to a God who kills thousands, perhaps millions, because he is a little grumpy, than to understand some actions cause damage and thus not do them?

Absolutly, I believe that Christianity is just as delusional, just as much a fairy tale, as Islam, or Judaism, or Hinduism, or any of the other tribal creation myths we see floating around today. The difference is, I don't condemn those who embrace religeon as being "morally repugnant." I don't assume that, simply by virtue of going to a certain church, a person is doomed to an eternity in hell. I don't attempt to preach to the masses that they are horribly wrong, and shall suffer for their sins. I let people do what they please.

I find the Christian beliefs wrong not because they are different from my own, but because of what they are. The Bible asks us to condemn gays, "Heathens," women. The Old Testament is a war story, about one group of fanatics trying to gain regional supremacy, using terror tactics and genocide. It isn't a story of love, or human decency- it is the chronical of a monsterous mythological figure, who incites his followers to cause pain and suffering. It is irrational, and disgusting.

That's the difference between the Atheist assertion that Christianity is wrong, and the Christian assertion that Atheism is wrong. Atheists have never lead crusades or started inquisitions, friend.

I needed something beyond 'idiot mortal'. It gets kinda dull quick. Besides, this is the style of argument that, in my experience, comes entirely from Judeo-Christians. I may turn out to be wrong, of course.

Well he's it seems implicit in his overall attitude that he is of the belief that religion is important, demonstrates the right sort of assholisim for a christian fundy and he seems to have taken up the gauntlet of defending the christian asshats this thread is against.....and he sure as hell isnt an athiest or a muslim (hence my assholisim comment)

It seems fairly clear he thinks "men of lofty religions" = "christians" which is total bullshit.

Bahai are not exactly fanatical... (They accept Sidhartha, Jesus, & Moses as well as Mohammad in their branch of Islam)

Of course the scary one that could be attributed to me, was after some very rude Tourists came in, I suggested restarting the Hindu Thuggee religion, as "anyone who was for killing a couple of million tourons couldn't be that bad."
