Frank Hipper wrote:Destructive? Got examples of ATHEISM being destructive?
Stalin and Mao. Those two have caused more death and destruction than all religions combined in the entire history of humanity.
Simon H.Johansen wrote:1. Atheism is not a belief system, it is only the idea that there is no such thing as god.
2. How do you explain that religious people have engaged in questionable behaviour, in order to force their beliefs upon others??
1. Atheism is a belief system based upon the ridiculous claim that there is no God.
2. They rejected the word of God and were succumbed by desire, greed, and anger.
Arrow Mk84 wrote:As if Christianity has given any better. At least the pagans were religious tolerant.

Also, broad type casting, like the one you've made about atheist, is an excellent example of religious intolerance. Look at yourself before you bash someone else.

Oh, and to this atheist, rape is wrong, period. That doesn't fit your sterotype, does it? Its funny, you've defended the statement that atheist are intolerant and bigoted, while you've been nothing but through the whole argument.
Christianity has resulted in more good than harm, so why bitch? At least Christianity didn't give rise to megalomaniacs such as Stalin and Osama bin laden.
And you have such a noble sentiment there: "[R]ape is wrong, period." It's quite unfortunate that other atheists are not necessarily going to adopt that same view considering they have no reason to believe what you think about rape to be right. :(
Mr Flibble wrote:You are accusing all atheists of being moral relativists, yet you give God an exemption card from morality?
We are the ones affected by this supposed deities actions, so we have every right to judge what it is doing.
How can God be subordinate to morality when He is its very creator? God is not bound to any laws and cannot be judged. Furthermore, God is infallible and always just. All you need to know is that God always does things for a reason, and that reason is always just and innately good.
I am an antheist. I consider Culture B is right. I have thereofre disproved you silly generalisation that all atheists would consider neither right/wrpmg. Atheism says nothing about morality. All atheism is, is a lack of belief in a deity.
If you actually had a modicum of understanding of the consequences that come with atheism and its doctrine of "No God!!", then you'd understand the nature of morality for the atheist -- namely, that morality is what one makes of it and no one is truly right or wrong. Disturbing to say the least!!
And in my experience the reverse is true, but our individual experience is irrelevant, as neither of us has encourtered enough peopl;e to make an accurate sample, nor is either of us unbiased. However I suggest you look at the quotes on the page linked at the beggining of this thread to see aome good examples of "men of lofty religions" who are definately not compassionate nor peaceful. And by the way, I should point out that many muslims may consider themselves to be 'men of a lofty religion'.
For somone who is criticising atheists for being bigotted that is a bigoted statement against muslims.
The fundies quoted do not represent Christianity, they are merely a fringe group gone mad. As for the Muslims... well, they can delude themselves all they want, but God is about love and harmony, not submission, death, and destruction. :)
SirNitram wrote:Idiot mortal. Your 'God' is an amoral asshole who slew an entire world, is this the morality we should follow? Nay, of course not. Your God may not be as blind or dumb as Azathoth, nor as drunken as Dionysis, but he is certainly cruel and evil by any objective analysis.
Again, God is not bound to morality, so you cannot objectively deem God cruel and evil; that is merely your subjective opinion of Him, which is blatantly false.
The morality decreed by God is absolute and universal, and that is what we should follow. We should not be confused by His actions because all we need to understand is that God is free to do as He pleases without negating His perfect nature; we don't have the same luxury.
So yes, morality does flow from me to myself, as every other mortal can. It requires one to take responsibility.. Something idiots and toadies like you rarely are capable of. Secular humanist morals are based on what harms people.. Things like murder, rape, theft, et cetera. They do not allow loopholes, like your Christianity does.
Ahh, yes, the Golden Rule. It's quite unfortunate no atheist is obligated to submit to it. A bit ironic though, that secular humanists base their morality on a universally-revered theistic principle yet are quick to dismiss religion and religious morality as inherently evil...
So, little idiot, how is it better to listen to a God who kills thousands, perhaps millions, because he is a little grumpy, than to understand some actions cause damage and thus not do them?
Considering that God is all-powerful and all-knowing, infallible and perfect, I would be inclined to think that God does what is necessary. God is neither grumpy, stupid, heartless, or any other negative adjective you'd like to ascribe to Him.
Thirdfain wrote:Absolutly, I believe that Christianity is just as delusional, just as much a fairy tale, as Islam, or Judaism, or Hinduism, or any of the other tribal creation myths we see floating around today. The difference is, I don't condemn those who embrace religeon as being "morally repugnant." I don't assume that, simply by virtue of going to a certain church, a person is doomed to an eternity in hell. I don't attempt to preach to the masses that they are horribly wrong, and shall suffer for their sins. I let people do what they please.
Nothing wrong with that, unless those people begin undermining society, as atheists and Muslims have.
I find the Christian beliefs wrong not because they are different from my own, but because of what they are. The Bible asks us to condemn gays, "Heathens," women. The Old Testament is a war story, about one group of fanatics trying to gain regional supremacy, using terror tactics and genocide. It isn't a story of love, or human decency- it is the chronical of a monsterous mythological figure, who incites his followers to cause pain and suffering. It is irrational, and disgusting.
What Bible have you been reading?! Christians are not obligated to follow the OT, so don't even think of throwing that in my face.
That's the difference between the Atheist assertion that Christianity is wrong, and the Christian assertion that Atheism is wrong. Atheists have never lead crusades or started inquisitions, friend.
No, they've merely killed killed a hundred million+ people... and they continue to kill today (abortion).

ROTFLMAO! Stalin and Mao are somehow prime examples of Atheists? They were pretty rare, as opposed to Christians, which have millions advocating painful death and worse even today.

Grey, you're a grade-A moron.

As for "millions [of Christians] advocating painful death...", care to defend your otherwise mendacious claim?

It's called Hell. Christians are enamoured to it.

Mao and Stalin are testimony to the destructive nature of Communism, which does not equal Atheism. If you understood what you spouted, you'd know this.

Ummm, no. Communism has little to nothing to do with morality. It was their atheism that affored them an opportunity to make themselves demigods. Being an atheist, one can justify anything to himself.

And being a Christian, one can justify rape, murder, slaveholding, and unrepetant hatred to one's self.

Sorry, I don't like to insult people like that, but one ill turn deserves another.

You are an egocentric prick. Most theists do not believe in your Heaven.

Furthermore, before nationalism, communism, and nazism came along, what do you think was the number one manmade killer of human beings? Religion.

Ah, this argument! Anything that isn't agreeing with your interpretation is not True Christianity. Yea, right. Pull the other one, mate, it's got bells on. The last two, as well as the Holocaust, were all either sanctioned by, or allowed, by the Pope. You know, your Lamb Of God.

Lets take a look at everything that has been done in the name of your god evil.

The racial purification (read genocide) by the jews of canaan against the philistines.

The crusades

The Inquisition

the 30 years war

the murder of the alberginsians

the murder of the hugonauts

Subjegation of the rest of the world in the name of christianity

Hitler and his genocides

KKK

I could go on for a long time, I would say that judeo christianity as a whole has been one of the strongest forces for evil ever to have been created by man. Im sorry but the whole "true christian" argument is bullsh*t, jesus refused to treat someone for not being a believer, he said everything in the OT was right the OT specifically tells all believers to persecute, murder, rape, and destroy the property of non believers.

Ohh and just to note, i happen to be a firm believer in the existance of certain moral absolutes, basically I follow the belief that if an act causes more harm than good it is immoral, and if it causes more good than harm it is a moral act. If it causes neither good nor harm it is neither moral or immoral, it is neutral.

Read the fucking Old Testament, dipshit.

http://www.stardestroyer.net/Creationis ... ance.shtml

This page, as well as several others on Wong's site, has many verses displaying the wonderful morality of the Biblical God.
Christians are the world's majority, so yes they do.
Lie. Christians make up a third of the world's population.
Not religion itself, but those who rejected the spiritual teachings of lofty religions.
Or those who embrace the violent hateful teachings to be found in the Old Testament and the Koran.

Like fundamentalists everywhere, Stalin and Mao used their beliefs to rationalize their antilife policies. What does it matter if the irrational force they worshipped was the Dialectic instead of the Holy Trinity? both ideas are equally ridiculous and destructive.

The big reason Christian fundamentalists are no longer a big threat to mankind anymore is the simple fact that more and more people are seeing christianity for what it is: A fairy tale, bereft of sense. Many americans claim to be christian, true- but most do not go to church, and many do not believe in the Christian god.

The actions of those who proclaim themselves Christians yet do not adhere to its doctrine in no way affect the innate goodness of Christianity. They had little faith and felt compelled to do what they thought was right -- in effect, they had rejected God and become atheists.

This is amusing, really. Your scriptures have the cold blooded murder of a few million people, and yet you claim your little religion to be perfect. What prescription does your psychiatrist have you on, for you to reach this level of delusion?

Prove it. The nature of Communism and their own paranoia created it, according to historians. I'm sure your proof will be non-existant.
An atheist is free to create his own morality and do whatever he wants. Is it really surprising that such a creed would give rise to megalomaniacs?
Not really. You see, real atheists realize we only have each other in this cold, dark, lonely universe, so we embrace helping each other. Christians, on the other hand, can lie and use the evil in the Bible to justify their own.
Tell you what. I'll use your own stupidity against you. They weren't true atheists, since they rejected Secular Humanist morality. How's that?

Christianity is perfect? OK, time to put your faith to the test.

According to Mark 16:18, loyal followers of Jesus Christ can drink deadly poison and survive. And you seem to be a loyal follower, so I beseech you; drink poison. After all, you have nothing to worry about, since Christianity is perfect.
