Force Inteference and Episode 1

Post by Yogi »

I've heard from several people now that during the Ep. 1 lightsaber duel, that they were trying to supress each other with The Force, hence their apparent lack of skill. This has since grown (not here, another forum) into some people saying that anyone who fights a Jedi will automatically suck ass. If possible, can anyone post a copy of the quote (along with the context it was in) and/or the source for it? I would like to examine it myself. Thanks a bunch!
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Jango didn't suck ass against Obi Wan. There's no reason why the Jedi wouldn't use the Force to hinder his movements, specially if he was trying to capture him alive.

Apparently (since I don't own a copy myself), the novelisation of AOTC describe something along these lines. Though by the time of the Clone Wars, the Jedi must have suffered at least ten years of declining ability to tap into the Force.

Was there a reason given as to why the Jedi lost the ability to tap into the force?

Anakin was able to limit Count Dooku's manuverability using the Force (which was, as I recall, mentioned as the ability of an experienced Jedi rather than a novice), and the novel further expanded on this in the Yoda/Dooku battle (Both were using the Force to augment attack and defense, and it was stated that the battle was both physical and of the Force. I also believe it was alluded to that this was one of the chief reasons Dooku distracted Yoda by dropping the machinery on Anakin and Obi-Wan.)

The AOTC VD also makes mention of the Force bieng a much bigger part of "Advanced" lightsaber combat than just physical skill, up to and including an opponent (such as the Sith) attempting to "break" the spirit of your opponent.)

You mean the shroud of the Dark Side that Windu and Yoda discuss clouding their abilities?

But was there a reason given to it's origin?

No. The Jedi are losing their ability see the future and distant events, but they don't really understand why. Yoda at one point says that "the Dark Side clouds everything".

We might guess that Sidious is responsible for this cloud, since he is involved in numerous, secret activities that he wouldn't want associated with his Palpatine persona.

Is it just me, or is Palpatine already looking pale and sickly in AOTC?

I noticed that he looked less healthy in AOTC than in TPM, its probably intentional seeing as Palpatine is already channeling massive amounts of Darkside energy to cloud the Jedi's ability to tap into the Force.

Inhaling COruscant air for the better part of ten years will do that to you, as well as the fact he was OLD to begin with. Of course he's going to age.

Getting from 60 to 68 or so will do that to you.
