5000 posts: Just not what they used to be

Post by Kelly Antilles »

I've noticed a large amout of people hitting the 5000 mark recently. I guess it just isn't what it used to be... especially since so many people gain that much from spam. Such a pity.

Meh, I'm not impressed with post counts ever since Iggy Broke the 10K mark, then Wong and Sea Skimmer followed shortly. Verilon will have that soon and when Beano gets back he'll have it as well.

You hear that j00 wannabes? 10,000 is the new standard!

So by the time I get to 10,000 though it'll probly be 20,000 or something like that. And i'll be retired in some sort of community home

Not bothered with post counts ever since I passed the 20,000 mark at SB.com, they don't serve any purpose other than to get people spamming more to be honest.

Although I don't much care about post counts anymore, it's just now not only is a lot of that spanm, but it comes from the TGODing in the Gaming forum ~ which a lot of us just don't use, from what I am seeing. Personally, I *hate* TGODing with most of the people here, and have never seend an STGOD and will never understand enough to go through them myself. [shrugs] Right now, I'll be the next to hit 10K, it seems, but again, it doesn't really matter *that* much, anymore.

I agree. When some people's post counts consist mostly of the same sort of crap. I'm impressed by people like Sea Skimmer or Mike who have 10k of worthwhile posts. I'm annoyed by people whose post counts consist almost exclusively of spam, especially when it's the same incredibly dumb spam.

Though on the flip side, there are still a bunch of us around that have been here for a long time with realitively small post counts. Hell there are some that have been here for longer than I that are still under a thousand posts.

But yeah, I have noticed the bar rising and rising and rising. :P

I'm starting to feel bad about having a high post count now. Even I think a significant part of it is spam. But, I think my spam is a result of wanting a high post count and not having anything to say. Some people, like Darth Wong, get high non-spam post counts by debating.

Well then ask Wong or Dalton to delete everything that is spam.

Personally, I don't give a damn about post count numbers, ok, they do give a visual representation of seniority if you combine it with the sign-up date, but its fairly easy to spot the regulars w/o checking the post count.

Custom Title's are something to work towards, but at the minute, I'm quite happy just contributing rather than working towards a specific goal, and I think my custom title if/when I get there would probably just be the same as on other forums, might as well present a united front.

Right now, 2000 posts is the general minimum for a custom title.. and custom titles have become rampant.. I think that they should be upped to maybe 5000 posts..

I notice that the people who say "lets up the required post count for a custom title!" already have a custom title, or have enough to request one.

Hmm, it might come off like I'm really really desperate for a custom title. Just to set the record straight, I'm content to wait for a few hundred more posts. :P

Hey, I was told to wait til I could get mine, so it isn't something unheard of..

That is, I had to wait til I had 2000 posts..

If you think about it, there really isn't much left to debate...and the debates that do happen now sound more like liberals and conservatives arguing about the role of government. both sides are firmly rooted in their beliefs, and if they havn't changed their minds yet, they never will. So then are all of the posts from here on in spam? aside from education the occasional newbie? I personally think this site has become more than just the vs. site it was intended to be. The politics forum is outstanding, and at the height of the war i was getting my news from there, not the tv or the news websites. it was simply because everyone brought every tidbit of news that they found here first. Granted, some of it was bullshit, but it was eventually sorted. The off-topic forum is at times abso-friggin-lutely hillarious (the boys dont cook thread). The fanfic forum is great. this is somewhere you can come and engage in all the guilty pleasures of sci fi or hradcore text erotica, have and educated discussion on politics or military hardware, or just be a sarcastic prick! To hell with the definition of "quality debate posts", i mean who gives a fuck about post counts anyway... i've been around since october and many of the people that have joined after that are far beyond me in posts. What i'm saying is who cares who spams or who doesn't. who cares if a quality 1000 posts is worth more than a spam-tastic 2500....because quite often that 2500 post spammer can be as entertaining as hell. <looks at my rambling mess of a post> man i gotta lay off the caffene....mumble...mumble...

oh and kelly 5150. Van Halen album...came out in like '89 or something
