Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Nice job evading all the points Spanky. You combined ad hominums and an appeal to ridicule; then you claim indifference when I tear your posts apart (as contentless as they may be). Thanks for showing your ture colors.

Umm Howedar... I conceeded and admitted that the theory was meritless near the top of page two..........

Okay, Blkbrry, I concede on the ad hominums I used. That was uncalled for.

The problem I had is how blindedly you believed this conspiracy theory initially, as if you couldn't evaluate it with common sence on your own. It's only until someone offers a link to Snopes do you seem to accept that it's false.

There is also the case that IIRC, you also believe the conspiracy that flouride added to drinking water is harmful. That has somewhat influenced my opinion of you in regards to how you seem to accept conspiracy theories.

And finally, concerning my comment that most conspiracy theories are false: well, that's because they are. Virtually all conspiracy theories don't work out and cannot play out in real life because they are either too complicated, unrealistic, or just plain insane.

But you are right, my ad hominum attacks were unwarented, and I apologise for those.

Anyone know where I can get pics or footage of that plane hitting the Pentagon?

BTW did everyone know that the Pentagon has twice as many toilets as needed? Because when it was being built, black people couldn't go to the same toilets as white people.

I was watching T.V. when I was composing my last post in support of the theory, hence I hadn't seen the strongest arguments against the theory (which were posted by Sea Skimmer and Aerius) when I posted; it was still reasonable to argue the case at that point. Even if the link to Snopes had not been offered I would have conceeded the argument after reading those posts; Snopes simply had the additional plus of using photographs as evidence.
There is also the case that IIRC, you also believe the conspiracy that flouride added to drinking water is harmful. That has somewhat influenced my opinion of you in regards to how you seem to accept conspiracy theories.
The reason I accept that particular conspiracy theory is that Murray Rothbard made a particularlly good case in support of it. If you read his argument I'm sure you'll see why its so convincing. I'll even provide a link for you.

And finally, concerning my comment that most conspiracy theories are false: well, that's because they are. Virtually all conspiracy theories don't work out and cannot play out in real life because they are either too complicated, unrealistic, or just plain insane.
Funny, since conspiracy to commit a crime is a felony under US Federal Law. If conspiracies were not all that common then there wouldn't be a need to make them illegal.

I'm sure your probably thinking that thats different because its on a smaller scale, and that argument does have merit. But there is evidence to support larger conspiracies too. Would you deny that Enron was a conspiracy? How about the burning the the Reichstag?

A conspiracy is when several individuals get together to plan an action, or series of actions (usually illegal) which will lead to a result that is benefical to either them or their interets/interest group. I fail to see why people have such a hard time believing that such a thing could happen. I mean image, people getting together, to plan activities which will ultimatly benefit them.. why such a thing would never happen

Did anyone else see the PBS special, "Why the Towers fell"?

The steel cross-members that tied the exterior skeleton and interior 'tube' together (giving their column free design rigidity) were coated with insulative fire-retardant material. The bldgs were designed to let a typical office fire burn out. However, when the planes crashed into the exterior skeleton, the aluminium fuselages disintegrated into aluminimum sandpaper, scouring the insulation off of the crossbeams and exposing them directly to the intense jet-fuel fire (the interior sheetrock firewalls were effectively removed as well). Although both towers would surely have failed in this situation regardless of the insulation and fire walls, the lack of both hastened their demise considerably.

IIRC, the only plane debris that didn't disintegrate was the engines and the landing gear, both containing lots of steel rather than aluminimum.

As I remember first they said the Pentagon was hit by a truck full of explosives, then they said it was hit by a plane not bigger than a two seater Cessna, finally it was hit by a big Boeing.

I rather think the second one was the best...

They never reported that the Pentagon had been hit by a truck bomb as far as I can tell. But there where reports that one Federal office building downtown had been hit by such a bomb. Though that was fairly quickly refuted.

My gods, this stupid website still exists?

Are so many people so blind as to not realize YOU MOVE A PLANE FROM THE REGION BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT MIGHT HAVE EXPLOSIVES OR CHEMICAL AGENTS ONBOARD, THESE ARE TERRORISTS, AFTER ALL.

I really hate conspiracy theorists. I hate even more those conspiracy theorists who try to make their lunacy sound reasonable.

Another classic conspiracy theory that makes no sense in light of the facts. It's the same bunch of quacks peddling their conspiracy crap because they're unable to understand what really is happened.

The same goes for most of the conspiracy crap. Most ignore the reasonable explanations and simply go for the lunatic theories straight away.

A good point I believe, is, how many conspiracies actually succeed? I mean really.
Conspiracies by definition are difficult to concoct, and, thanks to human nature, are much more difficult to maintain. Somebody always lets something slip, even in small, simple ones.
These theories of huge conspiricies fall apart when looked at with a little common sense.

Funny, since history shows exactly the opposite is true. Conspiracies happen quite often in history, and many times they are successfully pulled off. One easily verified example is the many assassination conspiracies against Roman Emperor's that succeeded.

When the motivation is great enough and the participants kept small, conspiracies do sometimes succeed. But rarely do they remain secret forever and are never, ever so byzantine and elaborate as the most mundane the conspiracy theorists spout. And frankly most of the conspiracy-nicks theories fly in the face of sanity. Most are so pointles and convoluted as to be laughable.

All I'm suggesting is that we look at conspiracy theories based on their inherit merits, and not simply dismiss them because they're conspiracy theories.
