Egads. Has anybody else noticed the unfortunate trend of Hutts being the most widely abused and poorly written characters in the EU? I mean, has there ever been an instance where a Hutt has been well-written? What makes these characters so hard to pull off?
Maybe because they appear to be unholy hybrids of walruses and snails?? (thus making it impossible to take them seriously)

In fairness there haven't been many Hutt main characters in the EU. I can only think of three really. Durga the Hutt, The Hutt from Planet of Twilight, and the Hutt from I, Jedi. Also i thought Durga wasn't a bad character considering that KJA was the one who wrote him in.

The one from I, Jedi was pretty good.

I read the Glove of Darth Vader. Six times.

In third grade. Blech.

Oh, and I have 'Jedi under Siege' which I picked up for free at a library giveaway, thinking it might be decent, before I knew of the horror that was KJA.

OMG...FUCKING bad.

I also *bought* all three novels of the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Erk. Half of one of the novels is Jacen and Jaina wandering around Coruscant doing stupid shit.

Maybe this is just my opinion.. but one thing that KJA does well are the minor characters.

What makes the Hutts to resilient, other than their massive size?

Reading that spectacular death scene for the first was actually pretty funny.

After reading now 60 SW books including 2 movie novelizations and that damn 1st volume Barnes and Nobles books i have to say that there are a few that pissed me off.

We'll start with Treky stuff, Vector Prime was Star Trek with the Skywalkers and Solos in it instead of Picard and visor man.

My Crystal Star prefrence is biased since i read it in my times of "All Star Wars is great" i thought it weird that other dimension guy was able to eat Luke and freinds though.

I thought it was in either Dark Saber or Crystal Star that the trainees at Yavin were able to move the Star Destoryers in Orbit by combining their powers and frying poor Dorsk i thing 82 (the cloned guy) that was dumb.

and in Black Fleet Crisis the trilogy catches you and makes you read but it makes the NR and Leia seem very very weak and dumb. This is the one trilogy that makes me hate Leia, i mean Nil Spaar is not Falleen. It makes me love that Borsk Feyla did take over, but then he gets dumb in the NJO and should be shot numours times with the invincible Nom Anor.

Yep so thats it.

No... he's not. He butchers established characters, his plot are filling with fanwank garbage, his dialogue could make Lucas' look like Oscar material, and all his new orginal characters come off as if they were special ed kids. The only thing that could be said about him is he's got the scale of the Universe down right.
It isnt just established characters he butchers.

Try reading Captain Nemo, which paints Jules Verne as some type of sham artist who writes about Captain Nemo's advantures. I kid you not.

I just thought all that firepower was required to kill a Hutt. They are huge creatures, after all.

According to the Han Solo Trilogy, the vital organs of a hutt are buried deep inside of their bodies, requiring numberous blaster shots to penetrate their protective layer of fat and actually find them.

Damn! You just had to bring the Han Solo Adventures up! I felt compelled to go find the books, "Han Solo at Star's End", "Han Solo's Revenge", "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy".

why do a lot of people bash the X-wing series, because seems a lot of threads are saying they are bad.

Love the technical implications.
Well, to be fair, they *did* have Bevel Lemelisk working for them -- it's not as if they made it up on their own. And it was Death Star Lite at best -- the Darksaber was essentially just the superlaser.

It has to do with Stackpole's inconsistant writing quality, the fact that game mechanics are used, and the fact that Corran isn't that believable as a character. I think. Personally I enjoyed the X-wing series.

I haven't read the X-Wing novels, but they appear to be the sort of novels you either love or hate.

My main problem with the X-Wing bookms was the characters. Are Alison and Stackpole schitzophrenics? One minute they have one personalith the next book they've compoletely changed. The prime example is Wes Janson. In the Wraith Squadron books he's a loveable practicle joker then in the Star Fighters of Adumar he's like an oversexed teenager. WTF?
