star trek PHASERS.
lasers are talked about as minor little tools or pesky inferior race weopons on trek. so, phasers are far more powerful than lasers and most in the trek universe have phasers. i'd hate to think what a photon torpedo could do to a star destroyer or a groupe of tie fighters let alone a quantom torpedo.

Goddamit not again. Alright first off the 2 universes are too different. Star trek is about exploring the human spirit. Star Wars is an adventure story. As for technology when Roddenberry started Star Trek he wanted a more scientifically accurate show Lucas had no such aspiration. From what Ive seen on screen the star wars universe has inferior technology. I dont care what it says in the books, scripts, comics, or Mike Wong's obnoxious site so dont bother pointing that out Ive heard it in spades. The reason I dont care is because Lucas has been quoted as saying he will contradict these sources in future films if he feels like it-as far as I concerned that means they are not canon. "Official" does not count and canon unless contradicted is simply absurd

Erm... I thought phasers and lasers were nothing alike?? After all, phasers work like magic on low-density materials, but against metals and other hard-density materials, ther barely leave a scorch mark!! However, lasers cut through metals like a knife through butter.

In fact, they ARE nothing alike, but official (and wrong) explanation is that they are phase coherent lasers, which of course, is nonesense.
I said so because the Trekkie I was referring to regarded Phasers merely as an advanced laser technology.
