Clones
Question:
If a two clones of a person (one male, the other female) have a child, is the offspring considered a clone of the original, or its own seperate thing?

Re: Clones
two clones of one person can't reproduce, they are of the same gender. you can't clone a man and get a woman.Mitth'raw'nuruodo wrote:Question:

Re: Clones
Maybe if you change the sex of one of them while its growing it "may" be feasable, but anyway that would be incest.Col. Crackpot wrote:two clones of one person can't reproduce, they are of the same gender. you can't clone a man and get a woman.Mitth'raw'nuruodo wrote:Question:

If you cloned a man and got a woman, it's not a clone. They're not identical.
Now if you cloned some kind of hermaphrodite...who knows?
Their offspring would be a clone of them i think...or one of their ancestors maybe...i cant think quite how meiosis/mitosis works in a....situation like this.

Right. So you'd most likely get a kid with some kind of birth defect, and that would set it apart from the parent(s) considerably.Montcalm wrote:Maybe if you change the sex of one of them while its growing it "may" be feasable, but anyway that would be incest.

The above is correct. This scenario is impossible.

Most clones are naturally aborted in uetero or die soon after due to defects, but if you could produce two perfect clones of a person ( discounting the fact that one wouldn't really be a clone because it would be a different sex) you would basically have a set of identical twins, and their child would be like any twins having a child. The possiblitiy of birth defects would go up, but it wouldn't be absolutely assured that the baby would have any kind of birth defect. Basically whatever traits they parents have would be brought out in the child to an even greater extent.
I guess you could take an XY zygote and inhibit it druing development Jurassic Park style, and hope you don't just end up with a woman with Turner Syndrome. (or affect the devlopment of an XX zygote in a similarl way)
However the process of miosis in gamete production menas that no two gamete produced by one person are identical, so any offspring would have its own, unique (if dangerously homozygous) genotype.
But this all ignores the fundamental fallacy of the original post:
What?!? Are adult clones not considered real people in your twisted little mind?

I think that if you take the developing fetus and subject it to high levels of testosterone (if its a girl) it will develop into a male, as testorterone is what causes male reproductive organs to develop. It may be possible to do this with a human.
However, the nature of repoduction means that although both have identical genes, those past on to the child would not be identical to the parents. You have two sets of every chromozome, and the reproductive cells swap genes between chromozomes, you will get a different ratio of genes. So for example, each parent might have a blue/green eye-color chromozome pair, and the child could have blue/blue or green/green. This would happen for every single gene making for a genetically different child. (I just noticed innerbrat already explained this part, but I typed it up so I'll just leave it...)

But the testosterone is produced by the fetus due to the presence of the XY chromosome. In that case the child might be born with male characteristics ( such as a partially formed penis and testies) but they would not be functional. The child would be a female genetically and start production of estrogen in pueberty and develop female characteristics. If you did expose the female fetus to massive amounts of testosterone ( assuming this doesn't damage the fetus) you would get a female hermaphrodite I would think.

umm... wow. I wasn't asking if it was possible, just what the baby would be called if it was.
(And yes, adult clones are real people innerbrat)
