It's very simple, really. In the original 1977 version of Star Wars, Han shot Greedo before Greedo could do anything. George didn't want Han to look like a ditry scumbag so in the Special Edition, he made so that Greedo was the one that shot first. Fanboys (and girls) everywhere were in an uproar. They liked the Han that played dirty better. That is the story in one paragraph.

Thanx alot, I sadly  have only seen the Special Edition, I always thought that there was something abit off about that scene. Well, now I'm in up roar as well! Han shoots first, so it was so shall it be! Just like the stormtrooper banging his head on the Death Star.

Well, I have never seen the SE :)

Doesn't have to do too much with my age though, I just simply have the videos of the OT not OT SE :)

Ah, I remember the first time I saw ESB... back when I was seven... it was around 11 PM at my uncles... I fell asleep about the time the SDs were in the asteroid field. :P

Too bad; future generations will never get to see SW as it was, they'll only get to see Greedo shooting first and Jedi Rocks. :(

Bah not if I can help it...I'm keepin every possible way of my originals.

Though somewhere down the line it'll degrade...sorta sad that the SE will remain while the originals will die out.

ANH will go public domain in either 2027 or 2052, depending on how the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension pans out. So, Han shooting first may still be salvageable by 2027.

When I made my DVD version of ANH from my SE laserdiscs, I edited the movie so that Han shoots first :)

I remember watching SW as a kid in the darkened theater (back then it was not known as ANH) and when Han slowly drew his blaster under the table I remember thinking "Wow, that Han Solo is such a smart guy, he's getting the drop on the bad guy." I guess GL doesn't see it the way a 5 year old would see it huh?

I thought the same way when I saw ANH for the first time at the age of nine in 1993. :) The worst thing about Greedo shooting first is that the whole scene looks very clumsy...

I've got to get myself a laserdisc player, a video capture card, a DVD burner, and the 1995 OE laserdisc set. All I've got now are the pan-and-scam VHS tapes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't even see how Han shooting first is playing dirty. The green chode's got a gun in Han's face and is practically fondling himself under the table while tellling Han how much he's gonna enjoy busting a cap in his ass.

Han not only should have fired first, he should have emptied the clip into Greedo's head as a lesson to the next guy.

Not to mention that the whole scene looks quite stupid now.

Greedo points his pistol towards Solo for a minute and when he fires - from a meter distance - he misses Han...

...you don't have to be a marksman to hit a human size target from one meter.

If I ever have kids and show them ANH, I'll cover their eyes when Greedo shoots and therefore.......HAN WILL SHOOT FIRST! The only thing that worries me is that if someone tells them he doesn't, it could break the little hearts.

Greedo shooting first is as bad as when Stephen Spielberg took out the guns in that one scene in E.T. because they "scared the kids." Bah! When will movie creators learn that editing old movies is not the answer!

Yes, but at least Spielberg released the original version as well.

It's a rather sophisticated play on words. By saying the "Wong cut" should be the "Ight cut", I am inferring that I misunderstood the phrase "Wong cut" for "Wrong cut" sans the 'r'. And "Right cut" sans the 'r' is "Ight cut".

I hate explaining jokes. :P

All this reediting about making Greedo shoot first is dumb, its much simpler saying Han shot first cause he knew Greedo would have shot him and brought the body to Jabba and told him Han tried to shoot his way out.
Case close Lucas screwed-up.
